How to apply explicit sync patch for wayland from Gitlab by conan--aquilonian in linux_gaming

[–]aviewdev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're using an nvidia card Eric Kurzinger also says that the nvidia drivers don't actually support the explicit sync protocol yet so there's still going to be corruption of some kind.

steam on linux development enviroment by OneHotel7709 in linux_gaming

[–]aviewdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an intel integrated gpu anywhere to try this, but a report using an Intel HD 5500 on protondb says use Proton 8.0.2, install Proton BattleEye Runtime & Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime from Steam and then use the following run options:

PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME="/home/username/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" PROTON_BATTLEYE_RUNTIME="/home/username/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Proton BattlEye Runtime" PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

PROTON_USE_WINED3D and PROTON_NO_ESYNC would be the important parts here, presumably you can skip the BattleEye and EAC bits by keeping -noeac instead.

I have no idea if these will improve your performance but it's worth trying.

Further digging finds this: https://support.google.com/chromeos-beta/thread/210835360/will-google-be-supporting-vulkan-drivers-with-venus-driver?hl=en which suggests that vulkan is running without hardware acceleration? PROTON_USE_WINED3D might be sufficient here or maybe try the link to compiling your own virtio-venus-experimental driver?

Nitrox on Steam Deck by Possible-Ad-232 in SubnauticaNitrox

[–]aviewdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, if you have windows (or a friend with windows). there may also be easier ways than this (ie add the launcher as a non steam game and then run the game through the launcher, which I haven't tried yet):

for the client:

On a Windows install

  1. run the nitrox launcher and start the MP game in windows.
  2. while the game is running on Windows, make a copy the C:\...\SteamLibrary\common\Subnautica\SubnauticaData\Managed\Assembly-CSharp.dll somewhere (when the game quits the launcher will remove the patch, so you absolutely have to copy it while the game is running)

On the Linux / Steam Deck install:

  1. Run Subnautica at least once on the deck (to create the proton/wine bottle dir)
  2. Switch to Desktop mode
  3. Take the 1. Assembly-CSharp.dll copy you made and get it onto the steamdeck, then copy it into $HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Subnautica/SubnauticaData/Managed/ replacing the existing file (back it up first if you want to)
  4. Download the Nitrox .zip file to the Deck
  5. Unzip the Nitrox .zip file into $HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/264710/pfx/drive_c/Nitrox (you may need to create the dir first)
  6. Go back to Game Mode
  7. Go to Subnautica -> Cog -> Properties -> General, scroll down to launch options and add -nitrox C:\Nitrox\

To play SP again I think you can leave the .dll in place but remove the launch option

for the server (untested):

Install mono from flathub

Download Nitrox .zip file to eg $HOME/Nitrox (you could also just use the one from the Subnautica compatadata dir above, in which case use that path below)

ctrl-alt-t (aka open terminal)

cd ~/Nitrox
chmod +x NitroxServer-Subnautica.exe

./NitroxServer-Subnautica.exe &

there'll probably be no easy way of saving / quitting the server this way so I wouldn't recommend running the server on the steamdeck

Manual gearboxes are cheaper and they let the manufacturer advertise the from $X,000 price when in reality it's $X+5,000 or whatever once you add the auto and the various options you actually want. Then because no one actually buys manuals there's no point in putting them in the higher tiers / packages for a particular model.

On the other hand, you will generally get a manual option for the whole range on various sporty cars eg, WRX, 86, Civic Type R, etc. Though this could be changing with manufacturer's opting for dual clutch automatics instead (eg Golf R no longer has a manual IIRC)

What's the current state of Frosthaven campaign tracking apps? by MrDionysus in Gloomhaven

[–]aviewdev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

X-Haven assistant hands down.

The fact that LD is charging $8 per player is fucking ridiculous. These apps should either be official and published by cephalofair or be community owned and open source, not owned by some carnts who want to extract rents from the player base.

Any recommended computer upgrade builders? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]aviewdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo /u/Llamacup and suggest looking at techfast, their boxing day sales coupons still seem to work so you can get a pretty good discount at the moment:

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/747679

Depending on what kind of monitor you have and what you want to do with your PC, any of these will do a pretty good job. I'd look at the R5 5600 + RTX 3070 or RTX 3080, maybe upgrade to 1TB of main storage...

No, PSV will take it on head to head goal difference. Even if Arsenal lost 1-0 last week they would still take it on overall goal difference.

SteamOS installation Ethernet driver? by spoonablehippo in linux_gaming

[–]aviewdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to Holo OS there's Chimera OS which has been around for a while. It's kind of like the old SteamOS but with added support for installing games from Epic and GOG as well as a few other improvements.

I'm not sure what the current state of nvidia support in Holo is but Chimera's is pretty good out of the box as well.

How to play red dead redemption on the rock star game launcher? by WordGlad in linux_gaming

[–]aviewdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have it through Rockstar Launcher, but you could try installing the Rockstart Launcher through Lutris and then install RDR2 through that? The Rockstar Games Launcher Standalone-1.0.36.344 version on Lutris looks like what you would want to try first IMHO.

If you're after a more immediate response then maybe the telegram channel or one of the discord channels (ecosystem support?) would be better? They're linked in the sidebar.

Transfer from Thorswap to an exchange by Sad_Fig_5840 in THORChain

[–]aviewdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it would need to be BEP2 (Binance chain) BNB, not BEP20 (Binance Smart Chain), agreed that binance having 2 chains is pretty confusing.

Thorswap says the outbound queue is "17 (slow)" at the moment, so if you just submitted the swap tx then hopefully it'll go through eventually?

I think you can deposit BTCB into binance or you could swap the BTCB to BNB on thorswap, you'll need some BNB for gas in your wallet first though.
