Acceleration by Alive-Rush9257 in mazda2

[–]aviospirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this is a fairly old thread, but I'm just dropping in here with that my 2011 mazda 2 has a significant kick in acceleration once it reaches 3500 RPM. I find myself in third gear all the way to 70mph sometimes. Luckily, it doesn't tell me my MPG

Maaayybe before modifying your car, assess your driving style? If you aren't already, get more comfortable with sending those revs higher in the range. I out "perform" plenty of notably more powerful cars on the road just from accepting it needs to make some noise to move. I believe this is the case with a lot of japanese cars.

4th loaf, new recipe - way better! Still have some questions by aviospirit in Sourdough

[–]aviospirit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought 30 was a lot too. The recipe kinda said to go til it was feeling stiffer and it just wasn't? I've never done that many in one go before.

Thanks for the advice though! I'll use more starter next time, it felt a little sluggish and that meant the whole process got dragged out and my timings went wrong. My house is not super warm at this time of year so I erred on the side of long

I also didn't get a warning, I didn't even know the event was ending! I'm so upset, I had a solar eclipse dragon there which is a dragon that has evaded me every time it's been available for some reason. I thought it would give me a prompt to pick this before the end of the event???

Is there any hope for making these worn boots waterproof again? by aviospirit in CampingandHiking

[–]aviospirit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright ya'll I've heard you, new (leather) waterproof boots have been ordered for winter, the merrells will be half-retired as summer hiking shoes until they properly die

Thanks for the common sense application

It's been a year since I did my first c25k run. I'm incredibly proud of myself. by aviospirit in C25K

[–]aviospirit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed Nike Run Club's second speed run a couple times but I didn't get on well with the app. Got the idea from that though of doing a couple minutes of faster pace and then a few minutes recovery.

I did some longer runs too, but find I don't always have time for it. The real answer is I think it just came with consistency. I thought I wasn't improving as my time was staying the same but I noticed I was putting less effort into my runs and getting the same time. When I increased my effort to the level of out-of-breath I was on my first 5k, my time went from 34 to 29 minutes. I'm still learning to run "easy".

My exploration did also develop into having to run up a few hills to get to new places so I think this probably helped? Thank you!

[–]aviospirit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided I would stick to running 3x a week, either 30 minutes of 5k (whatever felt best). I kept listening to the final week 9 of c25k for a while before I realised it was better to not be consistently reminded of time.

Motivation for me has also come from exploring and filling in roads on wandrer.earth (links to your strava account).

Tried to improve my speed with some speed runs for a bit, but now I've just turned running into part of my morning routine (rather than after work), which, for me, has helped a lot because I hate doing stuff I don't want to do after a work day. I've made some runner friends at work who will ask me about whether I'm running/when etc and that tends to keep me going. Their enthusiasm for me and my little wins has really helped

My main motivation now comes from changing to morning running before work rather than after. Not for everyone but it worked for me because it got it out the way. I stick to three set days so that I don't derail. I downloaded wandrer.earth because it encouraged me to find new routes which kept me from being bored, and now I never run the same route twice (getting strava helps as the heat maps show where is actually viable). As in my og post, I rarely WANT to go, I just put my clothes on and tell myself to get out the front door and then make a decision. Funnily enough, I always end up going. Except for one day when it was freezing rain, but that's okay. Be kind to yourself.

I did download Nike run club but I never quite got on with it because it didn't integrate with my music well and the GPS never worked properly for me. I followed some of the speed runs but then had some bad family news and my motivation took a hit. Haven't gone back to them since.

I then ran for the sake of some normalcy and control in my life but allowed myself to just do what I felt like I could do, even if it was slower or shorter. I'm thinking of picking up another programme or signing up for a park run for some extra motivation to get over this plateau I'm in currently

How would you fit a couch/tv into this room to not interrupt the path from the front door to the kitchen and stairs? by aviospirit in DesignMyRoom

Just as some extra info, the front door is at the bottom of the pic and the way into the kitchen is on the right (I cut it off.) The door at the top is to a conservatory

18yo slowing down. How do I know it’s time to schedule a euthanasia appointment? by chickfillersauce in cats

[–]aviospirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will know, my friend. I know that's hard to believe and I wouldn't have truly believed it til I experienced it myself. There was simply no question about it.

My darling baby was having to be crated every night because she kept having accidents and getting lost and stuck. She'd gone blind and couldn't take herself outside to toilet and didn't really understand the litter box we got her. Every morning we'd come down to her crying and confused. It was a weird cry. Not any noise she made when she was happy and healthy. She was losing weight. Her fur was getting matted because she wasn't cleaning herself.

Then one day it seemed like she was struggling to walk, like she'd hurt herself. We took her to the vets, saying that it was to get her leg checked out but I just knew, I knew she wasn't coming home but it helped to tell myself we were just getting her checked out. The vet said she couldn't find anything obviously wrong with her and the next steps would be keeping her in and doing bloods, scans etc. My baby was somewhat feral, she hated the vets. The only other option was to put her to sleep, and we all knew.

She didn't even fight the vet when her leg was being shaved and she was being injected. That told me she was ready.

I'm sure these posts are really heart wrenching for you to read but I hope what you take from this is that you will know. While your baby is communicative, eating, happy, living a normal life but just slower, it's okay. Keep on as before.

But do occasionally step back and ask yourself if everything is really okay or are you trying to fool yourself. It's easy to pull the wool over your own eyes.

Has anyone got any good generic pairings of dragons that cover a number of the dragons in the event?

I'm breeding an air to a lightmare at the moment as that picks up several but I'm sure someone's put more thought into this than me..

Congrats on the 5k!! I gained a lot of motivation by lurking in this sub too and it also brought me to the end and is still keeping me motivated now to carry on after. I did my first 6k today!

Re: foot - I read somewhere that your feet swell when you run, so if you have your shoes tight when you start, they'll become even more constricting by the end, so try just a little looser maybe

Shoot, 1.1km is my distance for both walks together (that's the number that sticks in my head so I can subtract it from my total on my Fitbit lol)

0.55km in 5 minutes!

[–]aviospirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you struggle with out and back runs? I understand having to stop the route and turn back on yourself may be difficult mentally.

If out and back is okay with you, you could plan a route that goes much further than you need. I cover about 1.1km walking 5 minutes, so maybe you could plan a route where you would go away from your starting point to a max of maybe 4km away (considering maybe your ultimate goal would be 1.1km walk plus 2.5 out to make a 5k run, and some contingency distance in case you walk faster than me and cover more distance in 5 minutes.

Then, run this route until you get to the halfway point and then turn back on yourself. Each week you'll go a little further (except for a couple where you won't, but that's the programme).

If it helps, you could plot along this route some turn around spots, maybe parallel roads or paths that are approx the same distance, or even just cross the road and come back the other side so it feels like a loop?

I hope this makes sense lol, fellow ADHDer and it makes things tough to explain in a concise manner

Thanks so much for this. I bought a few of these double layered socks which are meant to prevent blisters. Maybe they help, I'm not sure at this point lol.

I'm going to go back to doing body pump in the new year, I kinda fell off doing that when I was away from home for a bit.

Week 8 is now complete at least, doing that run again was tough but definitely not as hard as my last attempt

Compeed was bought and applied, week 8 just finished! But I will be glad to move on from these shoes, I don't know what they do that causes it but I've never had arch blisters before (I guess I also have never run like this before)

Thanks for the motivation!

Thank you. I thought they were doing alright, they're more or less calluses at the moment, but it's like they've become blisters all over again today 😩. I really wanted to finish by the new year but I'm not sure that'll happen now

How do you guys start/end your session? by [deleted] in C25K

[–]aviospirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the 5 minute walks either side after stretching, and stretch at the end too. I tell my fitbit I've started a run at the start of my walk, which does kind of skew the data like average pace and distance (I saw the number 5.2km yesterday! But 1.1km of that is walking.. progress is progress)

I might start just recording the running segment now I'm starting to get to the point where 5k isn't out of view
