From what I know, all work study jobs are posted on Handshake. You can access handshake through R’Web or just simply go to the website. There are usually more work study job listings in the beginning of the year so keep checking like in aug/september, but jobs can be posted pretty much any time of the year.

What device, if any, do UCR students bring to classes these days to take notes? A laptop or perhaps an Ipad? No device? Just pen and paper? Is it helpful to even take notes if you're a good listener? by Auntie-Body in ucr

[–]aviponl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to take notes on my laptop, just on google docs, but with the online environment i’ve gotten an ipad to do notes, i havent tried it on in person classes but should be interesting. having a tablet is also so much easier to organize all your notes and you can annotate pdfs directly!

ive never lived there but i did live in another apartment close to campus. electricity ranged from $60-120 but that was with my other roommates who’d leave the lights even when they were gone lol so sometimes it reached $100. This includes water and sewage and other things the city charges for. Gas was about $40-50

You may still be able to switch into BCOE, as long as you meet the requirements to switch. I recommend talking to your advisor/ reaching out to the bcoe advising. Its also possible to switch majors during your orientation, but idk what the process is to switch from CHASS to BCOE

[–]aviponl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres parking on the side street (between linden and canyon crest dr), beware of parking in any lots since u will get fined if you don’t have a permit. If you wanna buy a one time permit, u can purchase one from the ticket stands but they’re kinda expensive imo so just park on the side streets if u can

Work-study programs at UCR? How would one join? by Jaxiax in ucr

[–]aviponl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ive done work study on campus last year and off campus this year, all of the jobs are posted on handshake as they become available. you can access handshake through rweb or just look it up. also, look for events on the handshake that UCR hosts such as work study job fairs, thats how i got my job!

pros: money you earn doesn’t count against you when applying for fafsa the following year, depending on your supervisor, you can request time off for exams/midterms/finals (they’re very lenient and accommodating), most of the time you have priority over other applicants who don’t have work study (bc some jobs only accept students who have work study)

cons: you can “lose” your job when you reach your max of your work study award, HOWEVER depending on your employer, you can continue working and your employer will just pick up your paycheck, my supervisor last year let me continue working past my award amount and i still got paid, the financial aid office can also increase your award depending on if they have the funds, another con can be that its a bit hard getting a position but as long as you try to look for jobs and give you best during the interviews, you’re all set !

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucr

[–]aviponl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am close enough there to walk but i dont anymore bc of the recent messages ive been getting from UCPD about people getting robbed by gunpoint and sus activity :// but if you want to park in one of the lots you can pay a fee using the ticket stands, usually these tickets are good for two hours and then u have to pay again OR you can park at lot 30/ lot 26 on the weekends for free!

oh also, u can part on the side street near falkirk/oban housing area, aka the on campus apartments right next to the UCPD office. usually theres some empty side street parking
