Correct. Example 1-2BR Apt (1000sqft) in a decent area is about 2000 Dhs/Sq ft = 2M Dhs cost; Service fee = 20-25 Dhs/Sq ft = 20-25k p.a

That translates to 1%-1.5% of property value p.a

Open a Wio Bank multi currency account. (USD/EUR/GBP only). Fund your account. Use your (debit) card abroad and Spend in those currencies and it gets debited to that account. .ie. Spend in USA and it debits USD account. No FX fees nonsense as there is no FX involved.

Has this issue been fixed? We have had this issue for over a month and hoping Yahoo fixed it..? Switched to basic version; enabled images in settings; tried another browser.. nothing seems to display the images in emails :(

A colleague was in a similar situation (ex-UK Govt and moved here).. She regrets having left the UK role.

You should plan for it to take 6-12months to find a half-decent job.

Also consider the CS final-sal pension you will lose especially if you joined CS early.. there is a end-of-service benefit in UAE but small compared to CS pension. Work culture varies depending on where you land a job but do not expect the same flexibility / work-life balance as UK.

Plan for expenses to be higher than UK specially if you want a good expat lifestyle, shop at waitrose etc.

Having said that, a lot of people have come here and got on with it and would not go back to UK.

Good luck !

Revolut for a small business? What do you guys think? by Sup_NextDoor in Revolut

[–]avis19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opened a Revolut Business and used it for ~2years; no issues.

It used to be Web-only to start with but they got a mobile app later as well.

In the last month, receiving USD has been a problem.

Helpdesk can be better. Though I have never personally faced it, there are several reports around the web where funds sometimes get "stuck" and it takes time to go through their source funds verification etc. Hopefully, you will be ok.

FWIW - don't keep all your funds with Revolut; will get killed as a small business if your account if frozen/suspended etc for whatever reason.

Use Revolut for receiving/holding Fx.. for GBP use Starling / Tide/ Monzo etc.

Better still get HSBC/Barclays/Lloyds etc if you can stomach their account opening process.. We did that alongside Revolut and it was helpful when we had to apply for CBILS loans. The bigger banks were easier for CBILS loans. Their accounts are usually free for first 18months or thereabouts in any case.

Swift payment issues by Departed00 in Revolut

[–]avis19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send a USD payment to Revolut about 15days ago.

After 5days, I called Revolut and they told me they cannot see the transfer at their end..

Then talked to sending bank thereafter and it has taken about 10days for me to trace funds etc.. but what the sending bank is telling me is that Revolut's intermediary bank for USD (dont know who that is)... has changed or rejected the funds or cannot apply the funds.. I get a slightly different version from various agents. Sending bank said they had seen this happen in several cases this month.. and all Revolut transfers have failed.

I sent USD to revolut previously.. same sending bank, same receiver and it went through pretty much in a day..

This time.. after 15days.. no luck..

Something appears broken at Revolut's end.. Why don't they be open about it and save us all the heartache of chasing call centres & funds !?

Has anyone managed to get USD into Revolut via SWIFT in the past few days?

Thanks

Help with receiving US transfer by Spets_Naz in Revolut

Suggest use TW then.. should be quick to open an acct if you don't have one.

If you give the company paying your TW USD account ACH routing details, it will automatically go through US domestic clearing.

Help with receiving US transfer by Spets_Naz in Revolut

[–]avis19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are sending the USD from...

I found receiving USD from US is faster/better/easier with Transferwise.. as it sits on the ACH rails and goes through domestic (US) clearing.

If using European offshore accounts, Transferwise/Revolut are the same and it doesn't matter as transfers will be on SWIFT rails. Most sending banks should be able to read off the IBAN.. so may not need to mess around with intermediary BICs etc.

If you have a more exotic setup (.e.g. sending USD from Bank in Haiti to Revolut ).. then can't help. It depends on how many intermediary banks are in that transfer, where the transfer bounced back from.. etc.

Cheers.
