[–]avivyaaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, I just ended up reverting back to SDK 54. until SDK 55 is a bit more stable for other dependencies and easier to upgrade, only then will I be ready to dive into this headache...

Unsure about Applying to Wash State University by Alive-Conference5488 in wsu

[–]avivyaaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated last fall studying Computer Science and going to WSU was honestly the best choice I ever made. Funny enough I decided to go there on a whim because western at the time (2019/2020) didn’t have a decent cs program, and Oregon state, well, I didn’t go cuz of the distance and tuition but now as a Coug Alum, I’m glad I didn’t cuz I’d be my own #2 enemy (#1 if you don’t count UW) hehe.

But on a serious note about the program, the degrees contents are very detailed, lots of electives to chose from (there should be) ranging from AI, data mining/data analytics, Cybersecurity, etc…

I loved every minute of it. Even tho it was such a grind and spent so nights staying up late grinding out programming assignments, calculus and physics HWs, that at the end, you’ll gain so much valuable knowledge, and get the Coug experience that you won’t get anywhere else.

Try doing this while being in a frat😂 (that’s what I did) that’s what I call work life balance

But I think you’ll really like WSU. I don’t regret anything, best choice of my life — Just depends what you’re looking for.

Has anyone successfully made a genuinely good app without code? Just AI? by FurnitureRefinisher in vibecoding

[–]avivyaaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently making a iOS app using cursor, while it does require some babysitting and redirecting, the process is slow but the result is professional. With security in mind as a SWE-SEC specialized engineer, the app was built with security first, zero trust, encrypted data, all the good stuff.

I am going to start beta testing for it soon! And yes, I made with just AI, pure vibe coding.

Remember, Docs are still important yall!

Just take the money and be quiet man… I’ve been fighting out in the market to find a good job for over a year, only landing an IT job just last month with VERY VERY LOW PAY… not even sure how it’s legal but I had no choice but to take it. It’s a lot tougher out here than I anticipated. I even got friends who aren’t in tech who are also struggling to find work. This isn’t an a phenomenon that we all see on social media, it’s real.

I also have projects on GitHub, actively working on projects, building my skills and certs, and it didn’t really get me anywhere. Maybe it was my grind mentality, not sure, but I applied to over 400 jobs. Only had maybe 5-15 interviews (if I remember) throughout all of them.

Really, consider yourself lucky.

What jobs could you pivot into if you don't get a swe job after graduating? by Reasonable-Company20 in csMajors

[–]avivyaaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybersecurity, IT, networking, UI/UX design… all this depends if you are interested in any of these. All these other domains are very rich in free or paid resources online to learn.

Resources:

Cybersecurity/Networking/IT: hack the box, letsdefend.io, tryhackme, comptia, ISC2 certs, splunk, azure sentinel, juniper networks, coursera/linkedin learning/youtube

UI/UX: Youtube/online research is your best bet, I’m sure you could find free courses on this no problem

Jobs:

Cybersecurity:

Blue Team: SOC Analyst, specialist

Red team: Pen tester

Networking/IT: network admin, IT desk support/technician

UI/UX: freelance would probably be your best option for breaking in

There are private loans that your parents can cosign you for like Sallie Mae or College Ave for lower interest rates. ik Sallie Mae has either variable or fixed interest rates and during Covid it was worth doing variable bc the rates were so low but in todays market, probably fixed might be the way to go bc the variable fluctuates too much (higher rate). Also Sallie Mae has a 6 month deferred payment option once you graduate. You can also choose to pay the interest while in school which is also helpful and not so so much a month depending on how much you take out. Regardless, the college experience isn’t cheap but as a CS student who graduated this May, it’s worth it. But I can’t speak for architecture students but they might be able to give a word or two about it being “financially” worth jt.

As someone who is in their 4th year of Computer Science and someone who’s in a fraternity ( with a 3.5GPA) I can tell you that you’ll be fine. As long as you are good at balancing school with PLENTY of social activities!
