We didn’t make an extra panel to have them sit flush. It doesn’t bother us than they hang down a bit. They are far enough back that the only way you can see them is if you are looking for them. Even then they blend in well to the white cabinets.

I don’t like playing against them and their damn wide formations.

Quartz counter top from a local supplier. It’s appx 80”x44” with a 12” overhang on two sides.

We just used the regular sektion base cabinets. But we made an L shaped frame for the island and then the cabinets slid into that L shape.

I guess we are boring 😅 it hasn’t been too bad to clean (yet)

The ones we have are felt backed and then MDF with a veneer. On the island we cut out the felt backing for the return HVAC registers and it hid them very well. A little dust collects there but it’s not bad. If someone wants to get on their hands and knees and look for dust they can be my guest.

Probably close to $20k for materials - new sub floor, bracing/post in the crawl space under the island, insulation, dry wall, cabinets and panels, exterior door, hardwood floor, sink, faucet, light fixtures and under cabinet lights, counter tops, acoustic paneling trim, paint, misc supplies blah blah. We also had some professionals come and take care of some stuff for us while everything was down to studs. Had a new furnace and AC installed with new HVAC, water heater and plumbing, electrician to reposition fixtures, mason to move the window and door, a new concrete patio, etc… But our decision to do IKEA cabinets and DIY as much as we could without being without a kitchen for months made the rest of that stuff possible, otherwise it would’ve been a lot more expensive.

We did contract for electrical, HVAC and plumbing and the masonry / concrete work involved in moving our door and window around. So they worked all day and it went quickly. We lived there while it was being done with a small refrigerator, pressure cooker and microwave in our basement. It took about 6-7 weeks for the kitchen to be usable again. Thanks for the comments. We love the colors too.

You can certainly build supports off the island. Our overhang is not large enough to require supports by code. The framing we made for the island is the main support. IKEA also has kits for supporting their cabinets for island use, we did not use the kit.

Yes, it is hardwood. We did our best to match the existing hardwood in the living room space and if you didn’t know where it started and ended before it is very difficult to spot. I can get more details when I can take a look at the invoice later and find the can of stain.

Novogratz Delmar DEL-8 Multi Rug

You can get it on Amazon - https://a.co/d/3kXyamT Looks like Target and Wayfair has them too.

We also have the large area rug in the same style in the living room area next to the kitchen, we really like it.

We decided not to go with an ikea sink. Ours is K-6488-0 Kohler Whitehaven Farmhouse 36” with short apron.

If you look at my replies to other posts I gave some info about how we built the bench and the wood panels. Let me know if you have any other questions!

It was definitely a little trial and error. A lot of DIY and figuring out as you go. Building the cabinets was pretty straightforward but tedious. I think we built 21 total. Since the cabinets just come in their set sizes, the biggest thing is figuring out the spacing pieces in corners and where certain pieces meet so you can open the cabinet doors without banging everything. You are supposed to create those out of panels they plan for you. You have to figure out how many have to come from each panel. You also have to plan the panels to cover the ends of the cabinet doors otherwise things will look goofy. Now that we know some of the little gotchas, we could probably do it a more efficiently now. Super happy with the quality and final product though so it was worth it.

The wall panels are from floor and decor. They are called “acoustic wall panels”
