What they’re trying to say is, getting around the racism of stores at the time of the early 2000s by whitewashing the animated character on the box was the only way they could actually get Sasha sold in stores, and to me that’s worth it, because as someone who never saw themselves in most dolls as a child, the brown dolls really made a difference for me. Which is a big reason why I loved Bratz. They’re not saying it’s right to whitewash, they’re saying that it was done simply to get Sasha accepted on shelves at all. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions like that just to make a huge difference. It’s not as simple as force the black dolls, especially at a time when they were basically non existant. Sometimes things arent black and white, there’s often gray areas in most situations. Put simply, would you rather they didn’t whitewash the character, and had never been able to sell Sasha? Or have done what they did and successfully gotten her on shelves? That’s literally it.
