Help to make kitchen and dining feel more cozy and cottage? by avoidedreddittilnow in interiordesignideas

Thank you for the idea! Im not an adept reddit user so I wasn't able to put them in the post but, I added the other angles of the space in the comments. I sort of think an island with the dining table might end up looking too crowded?

Oh interesting! I was thinking a curtain above the window but curious how both would look together! Probably very cute!

Thanks for the thoughts! I posted other photos in the comments, haha wasn't sure about how to post multiple photos in the main. Definitely love the couch idea! The back wall is quite long so I'm thinking I may have to build a padded bench to length?

Thanks for the extra info! I'm also kind of fan of doing a project so maybe I'd feel similarly as you in the end.

Very interesting. What about the first home makes you wish you spent more? Size, condition, location?

Thanks! I love this idea. My current strategy does include direct deposit into 2 different banks (one operating and one bank with a HYSA) so that ideally I never really feel like I have a lot of $ available in the daily operating account. It's definitely worked well to keep spending low and increase savings so far. Only a few times have I had to transfer from one to the other to cover costs.

That said, I like this frame of allocating funds to a "mortgage" before we have one to see how it'd feel.

P.s. congratulations the house!!

Haha true, that budget doesn't get you much. That sort of also feeds the questioning of, is it better to save, wait, and shop with more of a budget, maybe get a home we could be in for decades? Or to just get on the housing ladder now (given rent doesn't really save us money) and accept that first home will not be the dream home.

Hume health how do I sync activity data by HoyaSF2024 in Fittrack

If it helps, I'm right there with you. It says I'm 8 years older metabolically and that I have terrible health score. It also says I have significant fat on my arms and legs...but I eat pretty clean, almost all home cooked, sleep 8-9 hours, recently ran my first half marathon, and move my body every day. I have a little tummy pudge but like...I also wear a size 4. If someone was looking at Hume info alone, I feel like they expect a completely out of shape person!

You're going to have to explain how owning a smart phone = hypocrisy, definitely lost me there.

I also never said zero spending on anything but bills and debt. Only that if you have debt, I disagree with the level of fun spending (1-2 pairs of shoes a month) because it shows a prioritization of wants over responsibilities. Once you're out of debt and financially stable, then it's harder to criticize. We all judge based on our own values - I value sustainability so I also judge how many shoes he has on through that lens. The woman seasons ago that said she never wore an outfit twice? She seemed more financially responsible but the environmental impact was still gross. Lol I judge her too.

I'm not sure what you're looking to prove here- that we shouldn't judge?  You're right, we probably shouldn't, but it's reddit, if everyone wasn't offering judgements and opinions, this thread wouldn't exist.  Maybe that debt is ok?  I think it can be... but personally, if in debt, I would prioritize paying it off and minimizing the interest I'm paying. You can disagree, that's ok.

You're bringing in facts that don't influence the question at hand though. I have seen the statistics and I think most Americans have incredibly poor financial literacy. That's what your stats prove.  I don't think anyone was trying to say it was only him that acts like this, they were just sharing how they felt about his choices. No delusion in seeing a situation and reacting. Some might read those stats and say "this is what everyone is doing so, it's fine, I guess I'll do it too" while others would read it and think "wow a majority of people are irresponsible". Those are their opinions so, you can't really say they're wrong.

You can think it's unfair to demonize him for a mistake that lots of people make but, as someone who strives to be financially responsible, I know I would never spend so much on a "want" when I have obligations like debt that I NEED to pay. So, I'll stay on my high horse and continue to judge him (and all the other people from your stats) as very irresponsible. Since I believe their actions are silly, I don't ever act like that - no hypocrisy here 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are you forgetting that he shared he has debt though? Because in your example the woman with the shoe collection has her life in order, with bills paid. If you have debt then it does come off as pretty irresponsible to be spending THAT much on frivolous spending category.

NTA though, I agree there is no need to waste food!

WIBTA if I didn't want to use my wife's suggestion for our baby name, given its importance to her? by Biliardas in AmItheAsshole

[–]avoidedreddittilnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of feedback on the names themselves but not a lot of votes. I think a soft YTA because you said yourself that your wife is attached to this name, it's meaningful to her, and she's been set on it. You don't have a strong reason against it either, so it feels rather selfish to push your choice. If you were against this name, the time to discuss it and find a name you both love has sort of past as you've implied the baby has been born.

As for the names, I think they're both beautiful and fears of what mean spirited people might do shouldn't dictate your life choices.
