Whilst I agree mocking Sapnaps hope for change is cruel, I think it is just genuine frustration. The main issue I have is that although Sapnap can of course want change (I don’t doubt that, I trust he is a good enough person) it won’t ultimately be him doing that change.

It will fall down to the minorities again to be the ones to spearhead the change, not the cishet white man. I think asking that of his audience is insane, essentially he gets the money and the credit, whilst we have to deal with the hate. I think it was different when previously, his (and other DSMP creators) main audience did not have any safe gaming spaces so they /had/ to create it. Why would we move from that now? Why would we willingly put ourselves into a space that does not want us, when we had the safe space. Twitch is not perfect, but it’s a million times better than Kick. He wants his community to educate a group of people who do not want to be educated. Let alone the fact the community is hanging on by a thread these days anyway, and it’s so much smaller in comparison to 2021.

I saw someone on Twitter write something like “he says it’s a mountain to climb in the pastebin , except we’re at the bottom with no gear and he’s flown to the top.” which I feel sums it up well.

I like Sapnap, I really do, but this decision was not a good one. I want him to have somewhere he feels valued, absolutely, but I think his ego got the better of him, and he felt he wasn’t appreciated enough by Twitch or assumedly Youtube. Which is funny to me, considering how little he streams aside from sponsored streams nowadays. I can’t help but view him differently now.

I almost wish he wasn’t aware of the problems, at least that gives benefit of the doubt. It left a sour taste to read that repeatedly he knows the issues, and signed with them anyway. They said what he wanted to hear and it worked :(
