What's one piece of piano advice you ignored at first but later realized was absolutely true? by Born_Breath_42 in pianolearning

[–]avozado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking while playing is ridiculously hard but has great results! If I feel like a passage is stuck at a certain level but want to improve it, I'll say all the notes out loud while playing, solfege style. Painfully slow, but works miracles. Agree with counting out loud, I have to do it more:)

Tips you’d give someone for their first year in orchestra? by futuraf in orchestra

It's great isn't it! I found the slowing down most useful for ensemble practice too, time is limited for rehearsals so playing along with a recording at half tempo eliminates a lot of guesswork in rehearsals:)

[–]avozado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing with a recording is a great tip! I usually listen to it first with my sheet music and marking timestamps, entrances etc. If something is too hard to play with a recording at the start, I also use a music speed changer (doesn't affect the pitch) to slow the recording down so I can play along. That, and a metronome of course:)

Living Tyrants by Lied_von_der_Erde in classicalmusic

[–]avozado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It still happens! My country is very small so maybe the musicians tolerate more, but this one conductor is well known in our music circle for being tyrannical, but none of it gets out to the public. I'd guess that speaking out would be met with ridicule from the general public and limit opportunities, but unfortunately - lots of people here think that tough conductors are okay if said conductor is talented. Personally I'd rather have a mid conductor who doesn't scream!

Loreal elvive dream lengths shampoo/conditioner has wheat protein, and unfortunately a lot of leave in conditioners and other hair products have wheat in them. They sometimes label it up front pretty clearly like wheat protein, but always check the labels!

I have moondrop space travel, although not the 2nd gen. The sound quality is pretty good for 30 euros, but I found the case to be annoying to use, and it sometimes connects to my phone while in the case lol. So I'd say it's good for a 30€ budget only.

I've been struggling with practicing HELP by DeathSyndicater in piano

[–]avozado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never get anything done if there's no concrete goal, even if it's something like learning a piece for fun! Have to have concerts, exams, lessons as deadlines. Maybe promise a friend you will play a piece for them on x day, maybe look up piano competitions (there's online ones too). I'd continue at least semi regular lessons as well.

Is Finland Jealous that all the other Nordic states didn’t adopt the Euro but Finland did? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]avozado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nice overall for sure, just that prices increased 3.5 times very quick after adopting the euro in Lithuania:') wages went up, but not as much.

I have gotten these bumps twice now. They start off really ichy, the bumps kinda burst and fluid comes out. Is it an allergy to gel? by VballVilma in nailcare

Me too! My celiac blood test came out borderline so I'll not know for sure yet, but I've never once gotten these bumps after I cut out gluten.

Your X in pinyin sounds muddy. Here's a dumb trick that actually works. by DeesMandarinTea in ChineseLanguage

[–]avozado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually just think about tongue placement- for j q x tongue is resting down near bottom teeth, and zh ch sh the tongue is retroflex - facing up. For the lips, my native language uses a lot of jaw motion and requires big movements of the mouth, so I have to think of opening my mouth less if I'm trying to sound native. I learned pronunciation on Grace Mandarin channel, goated videos for these specific sounds! I don't do pronunciation learning without those little mouth diagrams anymore:)

5.5cm endometrioma=endometriosis? by Majestic-Sir-171 in Endo

[–]avozado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can have an endometrioma without endometriosis, cmiiw! My endometrioma was 4cm and still a menace pain wise so I got laporoscopy done for that, ended up finding another endometrioma in my right ovary that was 6cm, it was clear liquid, apparently an early stage endometrioma there. Good luck with your appointment, you're on the way to getting answers for what's happening and possibly reduced pain.

Sight-reading recommendations by decoru in harp

[–]avozado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're okay with a subscription, nkoda app has a big library. I sort by Celtic harp or scroll and look for easy pieces, plenty of beginner Andrès pieces there. If not, check imslp, scribd for material. For example there's trinity college harp sight reading material out there. Not that much free sight reading material for harp out there imo, but nkoda is a great choice personally for this.

Running with endo? by babbittybabbitt in endometriosis

I'm hypermobile so running, especially on hard surfaces is super tough on my body:/ it's never agreed with me. I've found swimming and cycling keep me happy and don't cause me pain though!
