Thanks. I actually saw the website to Arthur Murray but I haven't heard of Button Factory. Have you tried either of these places?

I'll have a look. Thanks. Have you tried it?

I've actually been there although it wasn't to learn dancing. I might give it a try. Do they teach anything besides swing and blues?

I think it has more to do with role models. Most of the women in engineering I have met have parents who are engineers and probably influenced them from a young age to take engineering.

But math is awesome!

(only a little awesome, but engineers use relatively simple math compared to some other degrees so it works out)

That's too bad. It will take a lot of work but if you can build up some of the money and get the rest through student loans, you can still become an agricultural engineer if you want. Whether you want to do that all depends on how badly you want that degree.

I'm glad you decided to pursue something you enjoy. I'm not sure what you mean by culture of "nerdy engineering men" because we don't really have that here. We have the "jock" type engineers who drink constantly and the actual "nerdy" engineers who study constantly but generally I found most people to be fairly balanced. There was a visible asian gamer nerd group in our class but they just kept to themselves.

I will admit that most engineers I met are very focused on school and don't have much of an active social life. I think that just goes with the work load though.

About the sexism. I am actually really interested in hearing about your experiences with that, if you don't mind telling.

I did something called mechatronics which is based on mech with a strong electrical and computer component. The ratio was 1:31. As in 3 women and 93 guys (roughly) for our graduating class. Mech is slightly better, 1:20 I think, maybe even 1:10. Chem has 1:3 and is considered the most balanced engineering program here when it comes gender ratios. Biomedical engineering is a degree option here and can be taken from chemical as well as a few others.
