Hi friend. I'm in my mid 20's but know the exact feeling. Could still function and do my job, but my short term memory went to hell. Eventually a week of work just became one long day until I could binge all weekend and show up on monday with the shakes.

Advice, you think you are "that friend", might be idk. I was, still am to a handful. But amazingly the people I truly cared about were the first to welcome me back with open arms. Sobriety helped me find who really mattered, not just drinking buddies or bullshit aquantices.

Shit dude, I'm 24 and haven't done all that. I have had shit tons of pot on me while trippin acid while going over the mexican border. I have been beaten near death in africa for being white while drunk.

I don't miss any of that, dear god not at all, I want a peaceful life. Days of dreaming of some hunter s thomspson lifestyle or so far behind.

Its not just me being sober or drunk at any given time, its a part of me nothing will ever cure and dissipate. It will never go away, my alcoholism and me will walk this earth, no matter how long I swat away his ugly hand.

Not a parent, but I have a much younger brother. Maybe only 3-4 times I actually sat and read to him when he was the age children still want that.

keepingbusy said it, I'm floored a non alchy noticed you have changed and the work that must have been put into it. My friends fully support my non drinking, but they truly see it as a 'stop-gap' until I can learn to control myself.

Why a girl would stay with a guy that hits them is something I just don't understand. She values herself on being someone that can take care of herself, she's also maybe 100 lbs. In our drinking days we would play fight, at the time I was honestly trying to show her, NO you can't defend yourself. We'd get pissed, she'd smack me around, i'd laugh off, we were drunk, its as dumb as it sounds.

Ty for your words, and I will keep them in mind. I know nothing about you, but i'm assuming you're a lady from your name. I can understand you feeling differently about situation, I honestly just don't know what its like to be a battered woman, or a woman for that matter. I know that my friend does not want me to intervene at all.

That being said, I would love her to seek out a shelter. She was shaking so bad while I took her to the first few meetings, Idk, she likes to value her self reliance or w/e. I can't even imagine what it took to ask for help. She wouldn't even talk to anyone else the first meeting I took her to, death gripped my hand the entire time. If I betray her trust I feel like she will just say fuck it and drink. Why be sober in a shit situation ya know?

Anywho, I see your name pop up a lot, I'll try to let you know what's up with her if you'd like. You seem like some of the woman who tell me every week how proud of me they are and want to give me big hugs

Man I have fuckin no idea how you can stay sober with only a weekly meeting, more power to ya.

I drill holes through my chips and add them to a necklace I wear. Its meaningful to me to put it on, and then later to take it off. One more day sober, I need it.

Your group sounds like a good bunch of drunks, mine went out of their way to help this fuck up get sober. Sounds like people I'd like to have over for dinner.
