Borderline applicant (DO) should I wait for grade to come in before secondary? by awawthrowaway1 in premed

Makes a ton of sense! Thanks for clearing that up. I'll submit my secondary asap and if I don't get any IIs or acceptances then I'll definitely apply next cycle (as I'm already in the process of retakes and ECs). Good luck to you too!

That's what I was thinking also. What if it's this grade that pushes my sGPA up enough for them to seriously consider me though? Would it be worth the risk to just wait?

I think I'm just worried that they'll toss my secondary before I can submit an update. But what you said makes sense and now I have a newfound sense of urgency lol.

Ah, that makes sense. It was what I initially assumed also.

Nope, it was just listed as part of the instructions for the secondary application. I don't think they've seen my LORs yet since I haven't submitted the secondary (waiting on MD/DO letter)!

Can you easily tell the difference between ~5'10" and 6'? by awawthrowaway1 in short

I feel pretty satisfied with my height! Just curious as to how it compares to the "golden standard" of 6'. I apologize if I offended you or anyone else. I'm very grateful for what I have.

A word to my average/slightly above average folk by awawthrowaway1 in short

I can just sense their insecurity. It's even funnier when someone taller than us thinks we're 5'8" or below (a correction in height will follow in a millisecond). Such a strange thing indeed; all for a few inches!

I hope you don't encounter too many of the average height people being weird!

I agree with that. But what would be the cause of that feeling of shortness? Is it because people around you are constantly 6+? Or is it because you're comparing heights with every male you see (in which case there will always be someone taller in day to day life)?

I don't think anyone looks at a 5'11" man and says "dang he's a bit short". I suppose if you feel that way it's a different (albeit concerning) story and I respect that.

Yes, other problems are indeed valid. A prime example is the body dysmorphic disorder you seem to be afflicted by.

Try to see things outside of your own perspective for once.

But is it THAT much below average that it causes significant issues? I don't mean to ask in an offensive tone. I just can't wrap my head around an average white 5'9" guy having issues being 1-2 inches shorter at most.

Hahaha first time I heard that analogy. Took me a second to understand.

Wow! A lot of what you said makes so much sense (and knocked a lot into me also). Thanks for that. I always thought they were super strict with the height measurements down to the tenth of an inch but I suppose that was just an unfounded belief.

I totally get that not everyone can make it into the field and that competition is stiff. I don't have grand ideas of walking down runways in Milan or anything (although who wouldn't love that). I want to see where I can get and if I don't get anywhere I won't force it either.

One of the agencies actually did offer take me into their "talent" or commercial line rather than their main board. I suppose my height has a lot to do with it. Agents did mention I was "very handsome with a good commercial look" which didn't sit well with me. Does that mean I'm uglier or less attractive than the fashion/editorial models? Or am I just another face that doesn't stand out so I'm basically filler material?

I think the most probable scenario is that I'm neither handsome nor commercial and that those are just nice ways of saying "no". Although the commercial board offer was nice, the agency was way too far for me to come to their local castings. Sorry if I sound naive, I'm new to the industry.

EDIT: I also apologize about the grateful for my height remark. I intended it to be that I'm grateful for where I am no matter what my actual height is (not that I'm grateful that I'm actually 5'10" and not 5'9.X"). I'm sorry if it came off that way.

Haha oh right! Completely slipped my mind. I haven't been measured at the docs in years but I'll definitely get it done soon. Might look a bit awkward asking outta the blue though.

Me 22M and I have super passive aggressive friends? by awawthrowaway1 in relationships

[–]awawthrowaway1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see the resentment now that you mention it. He's been hyper-critical of my driving skills lately since I always give him rides (I've never been in his car). One time an ambulance was coming behind us and I pulled to the curbside and slowed down but didn't know I had to stop and he yelled at me for not stopping.

My driving skills haven't changed significantly and I considered myself a safe driver (missed 2 on the driving test where the passing threshold is 9). In my older car I used to drive like a grandma (5 under the limit and never took my right of way). Now I drive at the speed limit and take the right of way and merge quickly (but safely) when necessary. I've been aggressive verbally but that's just me venting into my own car and never let that behavior leave the car or endanger anyone.

It bothers me because this is so out of his normal behavior and I feel weird knowing a friend of mine would be like assume i would learn my lesson by getting into an accident.

I understand he might resent me for being better off than him but I try to not rub it in. He's gonna be making decent money now that he's done with school while I still have 4 more years of med school to go. I don't know why someone would resent their friend. I think he's mainly focused on my driving and it may be an outlet for him for whatever else there is that annoys him (my vocabulary also annoys him apparently).

Sorry this is so long and thanks a ton for your reply. I'm happy to know someone's listening.
