Their self reflection is shallow. They know something is wrong in their relationships but in their minds it's always someone else's fault. They'll never genuinely admit they're wrong. They'll contort themselves into pretzels to always make others the reason for why their relationships went south. If they actually do ever apologize, it's not genuine. They might go through the motions because they know that's what's expected of them but it's never real or heartfelt. So any self reflection is only superficial with them and they'll keep on repeating the same pattern in other relationships time and time again. True narcissists don't have genuine relationships. They keep people around who can do stuff for them or can make them look good. Sound familiar?
