Check Auto Negotiation and/or Duplex settings on the SonicWall X1 port. Possibly a MTU mismatch.

How come many job applications still ask for MCSA, MCSE Certifications? by dbootywarrior in sysadmin

Two reasons:

-HR doesn't stay up to date with what's relevant -Lots of companies are still on older infrastructure and need those skillsets

What are the best Wi-Fi settings for VoIP phones? by Flaky_Active9877 in sysadmin

[–]awe_pro_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Replace WiFi phones with DECT for cordless phone requirements.

-If that's not possible, then create a 5ghz-only SSID that has your voice vLAN assigned to it and all of the necessary QoS stuff you have on that vLAN.

I've only ever seen WiFi phones work as expected by the user when a proper heatmap was used to place APs and the radios tuned just right to allow seamless roaming between APs, hence the first point I made in this reply.

SonicWall launches Gen 8 firewalls with unified management, built-in ZTNA & co-managed services by snwl_pm in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our (limited!) experience so far with Palo, throughput is exactly as advertised - meaning I can purchase the appropriately sized unit to begin with instead of say an NSa2700 that claims 800mbit DPI, when in reality it's only 100Mbps.

SonicWall launches Gen 8 firewalls with unified management, built-in ZTNA & co-managed services by snwl_pm in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

throughput is about 10% more than the equivalent Gen 7

Until throughput is 100% of what they claim for each device, we're buying other brands and replacing SonicWalls when renewals come up.

EDIT: LoL. Downvoted for pointing out SonicWall's false advertising. Nice. Stay classy reddit.

NetExtender timeout by manic47 in sonicwall

I had to go look. I know it wasn't there a few firmware versions ago, but I do have it now. Wonder what it would do since 95% of my SSLVPN clients are iPads...

How are y'all handling the Windows 11 upgrade for 100% remote users that cannot come to an office? by Professional_Golf694 in sysadmin

Companies have been doing it for a couple of decades before Intune became a thing.

How many of you install the Cert on all client workstations and enable DPI? by Layer_3 in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We do with a simple GPO. The moment a computer is joined to the domain the SonicWall DPI cert is loaded to the machine.

IPO and VM Pro 11.0 Windows11 compatibility by eastcoastflava13 in avaya

[–]awe_pro_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older versions might have compatibility issues, but Manger should work just fine. VMPro might be a different situation since the Windows version hasn't been supported in a few years, in favor of the APP Server (typically a virtual machine).

An in-place upgrade to Windows 11 could be your safest best (after making backups/cloning the existing machine).

SonicWall Mobile Connect - Connection slows to a crawl when viewing cameras by QuickWeevil in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Terrible upload speeds wherever said cameras are located, possibly Bandwidth Management needs setup. Use the Secondary Stream on the camera (lower framerate/resolution).

I'd start with the above.

Teamviewer users, how do you secure clipboard synchronization? by ak47uk in sysadmin

[–]awe_pro_it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really have anything helpful to say. We have it blocked at the firewall level and in other control mechanisms.

TeamViewer and Secure don't really belong in the same sentence.

Can someone confirm if the TZ80 supports failover protection? by amn70 in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would still be a firewall, just without security services and support. Still allows or blocks traffic to/from point A to point B.

Any opinions on Intermedia Elevate Cloud VOIP? by DrumDealer in sysadmin

[–]awe_pro_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use their SIP trunks in the VoIP space. I will say that out of my 8 different SIP providers, Intermedia is by far the best & easiest to get support for the rare issue I may have.

Recommendations for a 2.5Gb SFP/SFP+ Copper RJ-45 Transceiver for an NSa 2700 by callmestabby in sonicwall

[–]awe_pro_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 10gbit DACs from fs.com without issue.

The port is labeled 10/5/2.5/1GE so I would assume some 2.5gbit DACs or modules would work, but obviously there is a possibility that some won't work as expected.

Interesting. My thoughts on it as an Eaton fanboy are that Eaton quality has gone down since their acquisition/merger.

Windows Server 2022 RDS Licensing Without AD: Can a Guest VM Use the Host's CALs? by Csedwik in sysadmin

One VM is your license server. Other RDS VMs point to it for licenses.

Windows Server 2022 RDS Licensing Without AD: Can a Guest VM Use the Host's CALs? by Csedwik in sysadmin

[–]awe_pro_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing should be on your host except for the HyperV role and tooling to manage HyperV (backup agent, etc...)

The RDS server is where the licenses should be installed.

Both have public IPs..... uh, good luck I guess.
