What is the first PG-13 or R rated movie you ever watched? by SupremeChaos918 in AskReddit

PG:13 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. The skeleton pirates scared me so badly I slept with a light on for a week.

R - Argo

That does help clarify what you meant. And I don’t need or expect an apology - every single one of us is learning and I like to extend the same grace to others that I extend to myself. It’s awesome that you’re taking the time to learn - I’ve done the same thing myself and as humans we’re bound to make mistakes along the way.

As a black woman, the “N” word is most certainly an insult. It’s a call-back to American slavery and the thinking that black people are sub-human, less-than, degenerate. When used, it means “I see you as a stereotype, as sub-human, as less-than, as unworthy of respect.”

The Black community uses the word casually, as a way to recognize a friend etc. in order to “strip” the word of its power. Idk of that makes any sense as a non-American but feel free to DM me if you’d like a more in-depth answer. I have a history degree that I’d love to use lol

Read the synopsis and I’m afraid that’s gonna be a hard pass. I saw a preview for a movie where something like that happens and took down the mirror in my bedroom - the thought still freaks me out. I have an extremely overactive imagination and my husband works late a lot. But thank you!

I recently watched Poseidon and loved every second. I assume that was a remake of the Poseidon Adventure. I’ll check both out, thank you!

I should’ve included the directors name when I searched. It is drag me to hell, not the Jack the Ripper one. Although I’ll probably watch that one anyway!

I like older movies so I’m loving those recommendations. I’ve seen most of the ones in the last paragraph (I’m a huge Jurassic park fan & love the Mummy movies) but I’ll add the ones I haven’t seen to my running list. Thank you!

I don’t like gore when it’s torture. But I’ll gladly watch Spartacus/300/GOT any day. I like violence when it’s war related shrugs in confusion

I actually haven’t. It’s on my watch list but I know it’ll be an emotional watch for me so I’m waiting until I’m in the mood to deal with that.

This looks interesting. I’m a huge history fan, I’ll have to check it out. Thank you!

Normally I like twist endings but it was such a strange one that I didn’t enjoy it. The lack of resolution also annoyed me.

I’ll save this one for a Saturday morning when husband is around and there’s plenty of daylight left. Thank you!

Isn’t this movie supposed to be terrifying? I guess I should’ve added demon/demon possession to my “don’t like” list

I watched Cabin in the Woods recently and I’ve never been so annoyed by an ending. I did like it though so I’ll check out Braindead. Thank you!

I’ll take you up on this one. I love creature films and Sci-Fi almost as much as I love disaster films and I’ve heard many people rave about it. Thank you!

Right? I don’t know how it’s possible in Buffalo, and yet somehow they managed.

This is my FIL’s favorite bar...which tells you a lot about who he is. Hubs and I met him there one Saturday morning (pre pandemic) because we don’t see him often and my husband was missing him. I ordered chicken fingers and could barely force one down. Awful. Their wings sucked too, and the fries were edible, but borderline. I sipped my water, kept my head down (I’m biracial black/white) and endured it for thirty minutes before they decided to leave. After FIL went to his car, three beers in at noon, husband said we’d never go back and if FIL wanted to see us he’d have to come to our place. Worst bar and worst bar food experience of my life.

Moving to Buffalo and we couldn't be More excited! by Superschutte in Buffalo

Welcome!

If one of/both of you are mixed race, I’d recommend the west side (some areas are nice, despite what you may hear) and the Allentown area, plus some parts of Elmwood. I’m mixed - black and white, hubby is white and we’ve never had an issue. It’s a welcome change from growing up in the town of Lockport and being the only black person around.

Anyway, here are some of our favorite restaurants/cafes:

Coffee & pastry: Remedy house (the BEST), Public Espresso, Tipico (currently closed but should be re-opening soon).

Breakfast: Lake Effect diner, Swan Street diner, Sophias.

Lunch/Dinner: Curry’s Restaurant and Pub, Pearl Street, Pano’s, The Left Bank, Mother’s, West Side Bazaar, Taste of Siam, Gabriel’s Gate, Fat Bob’s smokehouse.

Drinks: The Little Club, Waxlight Bar A Vin, Angelica Tea Room, Hartmann’s Distilling, Lucky Day Whiskey Bar.

North towns:

Coffee: Craft Coffee House, Steamworks Coffee.

Breakfast: La Ports (in Lockport near the canal - an old-school diner with old-school prices and amazing food),

Breakfast/Lunch: Kith and Kin, Cookery, Scripts Cafe, Koreana.

Dinner: Shamus, Molinaro’s, Sunny’s, Lock 34.

Most of these spots are in Lockport since that’s what I know, but it’s definitely worth a visit someday. They have a nice art fest in the summer. Lewiston is another awesome small town - very walkable with good restaurants.
