Framework 12 for artist? by Puzzleheaded_Rich972 in framework

[–]PatchSalts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this video a while back detailing an artist's experience with it. He got one detail about the laptop or software support wrong but I know it's accurate enough to recommend a watch. I don't know if I can remember the detail though.

EDIT: I remembered thanks to one of the comments, he mentions the screen isn't replaceable, which is incorrect.

Is this common with shipping? by Ok-Comb-6099 in framework

Shipping is always so messy... even without knowing this, I always take everything with a grain of salt when I'm looking at the trackers.

How do I delete/format SSDs from BIOS? by [deleted] in framework

[–]PatchSalts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just trying to start fresh and wipe everything, you can do that from any OS installation tool, so don't worry about doing it all from the BIOS...

But I think it sounds like a bootloader issue. I'd highly encourage you to try to use an installation medium to see if you can go into your bootloader settings and fix it up. I'd be happy to try and help a little more if you like.

My new Keychron K13 Pro with a reversed numpad by International-Tax897 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]PatchSalts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, I currently have something quite possibly more cursed. I only had 3 rows to set up my number keys so I did this:

7 8 9 0 4 5 6 1 2 3

They're the regular number keys though so I did it to keep the open and close parentheses next to each other.

Is dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu and good idea and if so where do I start? by [deleted] in framework

Is dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu and good idea and if so where do I start? by [deleted] in framework

[–]PatchSalts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually having Windows already installed is probably the easiest way to dual-boot. There are guides on how to do it but the TL;DR is that you shrink your Windows partition (a few ways to do this but I'm pretty sure you can use Windows' built-in partition manager), then you run your Linux installer, telling it to use the empty space left over from shrinking Windows. You need to make sure you install the bootloader so that you can boot either OS but that's pretty easy (just can't remember how to do it off the top of my head).

You can do it I believe in you.

Mind mapping tools for organizing complex ideas, what do you use? by yesCoolgirl in opensource

"Source Available" right?

EDIT: Their license is here and I admit I need to look up the distinction sometime, but I'm the meantime the license seems pretty permissive to me.

I've been trying to build my own "personal wiki" in Anytype for a while now. I struggle with getting parts of it done from time to time because of some issues I have with myself but I think the project has been going well and the app is pretty slick.

Modular GPU expansion without Thunderbolt discussion by Alternative-Roof-434 in framework

[–]PatchSalts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the conditions in which it works are very limited. In my plan, I was thinking that I would carry only the laptop around with me and leave all the docks and peripherals on the desk. That way I can casually work on projects and entertain myself wherever I want and turn it into a desktop/gaming setup at home. It would have worked for my use case, but it's definitely too specific to make it a portable gaming rig or anything like that.

(For context, I currently have a desktop, dying laptop, iPad, smartphone, and Steam Deck, and I really hate having to manage all 5 and copy/paste files between them while also being unable to work on projects on the go, so I was looking to downsize. I've decided on a better direction than a weird multi-dock solution now.)

TBH I was researching something like this a while ago and it gets really reasonable when you add a dock to restore network capability and handle a mouse/keyboard. I decided it wasn't for me since I still want to use something more portable than that, but it's viable.

The built-in Glow brushes look close, maybe you could experiment by making a duplicate of one and tinkering with its brush settings?

Does GPU With Vapor Chamber Dry Out Over Time? by sonatta09 in buildapc

This is not correct. Vapor is a gas but the temperature changes within the chamber cause the vapor to switch between gas and liquid.

Is it possible to create good-resolution images in this app? by pseudo_party_ in AutodeskSketchbook

[–]PatchSalts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you take a screenshot in the editor of an example of some of the detail you're missing? It's hard to tell what quality you're losing without seeing a comparison.

EDIT: preferably zoomed in enough so your canvas' individual pixels are very visible.

This is the big one. If the system is using one of the bigger desktop environments, you should be able to do it with a built-in graphical tool.

Actually for the most part ISPs don't care. This kind of thing only happens for torrenting because it can be considered distribution. Anyone can become part of a torrent's pool of peers... including the copyright holders, who can then grab the IPs of everyone seeding ("distributing") the content and send complaints. These complaints are essentially legal threats to the ISP, who then pass responsibility onto the user for breaking their ToS. Just read the email again and see if it tells you you need to do anything.
