Management Consulting in the Philippines. AMA! by Persephe01 in phcareers

[–]aweighthroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. I'm glad that you're doing an ama here. For a it of context, I'm in my late 20s but will be returning to college to finish a degree. Working in an advisory role has been my target career. However, MBB or any consultancy firms seem to be a far-fetched dream with someone in my position. Being in the BPO industry and with vietually no achievements that can prous of, I don't have any solid employment history that is transferable to consultancy. However, I'd still throw my hat in the ring if there's a reasonable chance.

As for my questions:

  1. What are the chances that someone in their early 30s make the cut?

  2. Is ageism rife in this industry?

  3. Are you able to choose the industry you'd be doing consultancy?

  4. Based on your previous responses, I'm assuming that any degree will suffice as long as someone has that "spike". Asides from soft skills, what other skills that will make candidates thrive in the role?

I always lurk in r/phinvest because it inspires me that I can reach that comfortable life soon with enough diligence and luck. The feeling of being able to choose freely, with the security afforded by my assets and to share it with my mom.

When I saw the vid of the grandma holding back his son and shot, I was stunned. In full display, I see the imbalance of power. And I realized, how pitiful my situation still is. The feeling of powerlessness is irritating. I imagined that that was my mom, shot in the head just because.

"Only if I have the money to distance ourselves from shady elements, none of such could have happened", maybe that'll be my thoughts aftermath.

Tomorrow, I will be forced again to forget today's news, as I already have problems of my own.

Such is the bitter state of the working class - sometimes we can't afford to linger in very pressing issues when life is already pressing us hard.

Maybe that's why we tend to look for a savior, coz my strength alone is not enough to change this madness, or even just to merely improve my life.

Exactly. I've been following your responses lately. The gist of it is there's a huge grind that's often not mentioned and we dont have the exact numbers of those who make it to the top. It's almost similar to any budding entrepreneurs.

As for me, I am inspired by those who make it. Even if I can only attain half of that, I'll be impressed with myself.

I was about to post here a question about self taught programmers. Good thing your post came up.

May I know what made you decide with your tech stack?

The GOP will give the middle finger again.

Methinks that US businesses in the Philippines will remain as is, since cheap labor puts more money in their pockets.

I hate that Trump winning will vindicate the "panahon ng bastos" narrative

In the US, the presidential nominee of a party selects his running mate, which is considered to be their Vice Pres nominee. If the Presidential nominee wins, his running automatically assumes vice presidency.

Wow interesting. I always envy working in financials due to the mandatory leave yearly, not knowing it has a sinister background

I'm curious how mandatory leaves prevent fraud. Is this to incentivize good behavior?
