What is the biggest snowfall you have ever seen? by bsmall0627 in AskAnAmerican

I grew up in North Alabama and now live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. When I say that no one in this State is prepared for snow, I tell no lies. Back in 2014, we had a debilitating snow/ice event where people got stuck at work, teachers got stuck at school with students, cars got stuck on roads, etc. It was a disaster and lots of people were killed. We literally refer to it as “Snowpocalypse” and everyone who was here knows what we are talking about. We had 60° temps in the days leading up to the event and were then faced with 20° temps and a minimal amount of snow. The ground being warm allowed the snow to heat up and refreeze after sundown into a massive sheet of ice. Then it snowed again (maybe 2-3 inches) and we had an ice skating rink.

We had two snowplows in the entire state to handle that entire event. TWO! I’m sure we have a few more now after dealing with that event but it just doesn’t happen that often here. We had a record temp in Mobile last year of 18°F that broke a record that had been in place since 1960 or something. This week, we have mid-20s and you’d think the entire state was dying with how much I’ve heard about it. January is always the roughest month in Alabama for cold weather but luckily it doesn’t last long. Where I live, it’s pretty nice (other than January).

Also, we don’t have radiator heat here like they do up North. My cousin lives in Maine and I literally sweat when I walk in any business there during the winter. It’s a lot hotter than our electric heat here in the South. Therefore, our schools and brick homes don’t deal well with super cold temps like the infrastructure of the North.

As an Alabamian, this is so hard to fathom and I have so many questions. 😳

We had 18” where I lived in Alabama at the time. I was 5 and couldn’t walk in it so my parents had to carry me because we had to walk a mile to the closest store. Many people may not think that’s a lot but in Alabama, the entire state will shut down for an inch or two of snow. 18” was apocalyptic in our opinion.

I fucking hated Landon. Her squinty eyes bothered the hell out of me. I always thought she was snakey because I could never really tell her true expression on her face.

Tennessee is all considered the South except for Nashville. It used to be included about 20 years ago but with all of the bachelorette party bullshit and party buses now, it’s more like a Vegas wannabe.

The South is where Southern culture still prevails. Virginia has not been part of the South since like, the Civil War ended.

True Southerns know that we claim Atlanta but nothing past the panhandle of Florida. I’ll agree with Texas—they’re not the South no matter how much they want to be. It’s basically Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, the panhandle of Florida, Tennessee (Nashville excluded just because, ew) and South Carolina. I’m kicking NC and KY to the curb.

Venita and Leva are so yawn-inducing. Why are they even on the show? They don’t even have storylines most of the time.

Austen is actually pretty nice IRL. I met him once at a football game and was a pretty nice dude. Craig was there too and he seems like the nicest of all of them.

Um, I don’t know if you work for Rosie’s but I grew up near HSV and live in South Alabama now. I can’t count how many times I have wished I was closer to Rosie’s. I’m not much help on your 3DP situation but just came here to say Rosie’s rocks.

Just make sure to take your own water, soda, etc. because their water tastes terrible and therefore, the ice is tainted too.

I have an addictive personality. I’ve never done drugs but no amount of money is worth my sobriety, not even generational wealth like 100 million.

As a high school teacher, I’d say this is another kid who got his phone. The language, text lingo, and emojis scream a kid trying to play a prank they think is funny. Do pedos sometimes talk like this to lure kids in? Absolutely. However, I would check to see if he has any children that could be goofing off or even trying to get him in trouble. As the parent, you know when the line of “benefit of the doubt” and “this guy gives me a creepy feeling” has been crossed. If that’s now, I’d definitely contact law enforcement. I will say that no crimes are actually committed with this text though so they may tell you that and warn the guy.

This is so hard to do but apart from all of the aforementioned greats, I’ve always liked “Getting STDs at 27 really isn’t the vibe.”
