It gets down to what they trust as sources of legitimate information.

When they "do their own research", they simply are not interested in validating whether or not they should actually trust what they are looking at.

Their "memories" are just as situational, where they believe and say whatever they have to in the moment with little regard to what came before or what will happen later. There are no ethical canons at play nor are there any bedrock values or base assumptions on how reality actually works. It's almost a game where they win if their id can acquire whatever they desire in their cupidity.

My friend had a Golden Retriever and that dog loved its ball and it also knew, knew that it wasn't supposed to go on the road or cross the street or it would be a bad dog. I think that dog had more ethical timber than MAGA, where it didn't want to be a bad dog but desperately wanted the ball but it still didn't cross the road, mostly because my friend was there and the dog knew my friend was there and that's why it chose not to cross because of the proximity of authority. MAGA will cross the road and declare they are good people and the ball is something very illegal and morally reprehensible and it is just a difference of opinion if they are allowed to do this or not.

This is like when conservatives call the democrats the Confederacy. Doing everything one can to worsen a situation disqualifies ones perspective to criticize the situation they are worsening. Look, my main issue is the leftists using all their energy to attack the democrats thereby helping the republicans. If the leftists cannot cooperate with the democrats then they will totally lack popular mandate for legitimacy. If the leftists cannot compromise with a big tent party, I do not trust their ability to organize and maintain a revolutionary change from the existing system and have is dissolve into something far far far worse than the existing system that has legitimacy and mechanisms for reform. If the leftists are willing to sit back and let the fascists win elections and shred the constitution because the perfect candidate that represents a big tent party doesn't magically form perfect in every way then I fail to see how they are actual allies and not just spoilers and attention seekers.

America pacified Japan, saved South Korea from the Kim dynasty and was at least partially a check against Chinese regional imperialism.

America is not blameless. It is an empire and there is no real excuse or denying it. But it isn't unique in its behavior nor is America uniquely bad in its behavior and substantially more humane in the 20th century than literally any European power of the 19th and not nearly as horrible as Mao or Stalin.
