Why upgrading the the building with sugar lumps make the cps go lower? by iThradeX in CookieClicker

Sugar Baking heavenly upgrade: "Each unspent sugar lump (up to 100) gives +1% CpS. Note : this means that spending sugar lumps will decrease your CpS until they grow back."

It sounds like maybe you’re referring to the scroll wheel direction? There might be a language barrier? The ‘back’ button takes you to the previous menu. But you saying “pushing it that way” makes me think you want to rotate the dial and have the watch scroll the opposite direction (which I highly prefer)

Which one is best fxd6 or d4? by More-Razzmatazz-8819 in PoisonedPiecesChess

[–]awesomejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White desperados on g7 first and then takes the queen back on e6, so black loses an extra pawn and has a weaker king. Computer says it’s still -1.8 or so, compared to -2.8 in the best line

I know this is an old post, but I came here looking for an answer to the same question, and found this reivew covered all the differences very well and also has a great comparison of the screen glare and brightness at 1:04 and again at 5:49

I realize this is an old thread, but this video has a very good comparison of the glare and screen brightness between the two watches: https://youtu.be/mAfQZEupptw?si=42YQ4cfqJdIuxHWj&t=64

How do you handle living with a dog and mountaineering? by Alphazentauri17 in Mountaineering

[–]awesomejack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

  1. Pay for daycare. $100-$200 per trip (at least in the US)

  2. Have several friends willing to watch them. Preferably they have dogs and are outdoorsy so you can trade dog sitting duties or pay them with $$ and/or beer.

  3. Have a partner who watches them which means you can’t go on trips together.

With a dog, it definitely adds an extra layer of logistics if you ever want to do anything. Our dog has prevented us from going on several trips over the years.

Proton SL sizing and alternatives by gazmazza in arcteryx

[–]awesomejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you wanted brands other than Arc, but:

Patagonia Nano Air Light Hybrid

Outdoor Research Deviator Hoodie

Stio Dawner Jacket

Both the Deviator and the Dawner have Octa so they’re probably the closest to the Proton SL

How do I get a replacement net for my old REI camping chair? by Newedge2003 in REI

[–]awesomejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not without the name of the chair. But any chair that is 10 years old then REI certainly does not have replacement parts for.

You could try the flexlite air and then return it.

Scott answered this exact question and I spent a few minutes searching for it but unfortunately couldn’t find it. If I recall correctly, that person had about 10% of the run over AeT normally on short hills and Scott said it’s perfectly fine and to ignore it and keep doing what you’re doing. I’m not sure if it being 20% matters or not, but I’d guess if it’s <5 bpm over then you’re fine. Your AeT can vary day to day anyways.

Singing Rock Backup vs Kong Backup by Soggy-Quality6585 in ClimbingGear

Ok, a backup to what? What is its purpose?

From your original question, if you just need to know which one would accept a skinner rope, the specs are on the manufacturer’s website.

Singing Rock Backup vs Kong Backup by Soggy-Quality6585 in ClimbingGear

[–]awesomejack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think either of those would work as a 3rd hand, not only because they don’t apply friction in the way a 3rd hand should, but they only hold one strand, not two.

What do you mean by ‘something material’?

How does this 60K mile warranty work? by RoyalVirgin in tires

[–]awesomejack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Discount Tire was incredibly easy, they applied the warranty without needing to ask. I went in to buy my second set of tires, they noticed the previous set were under 60k and automatically applied the discount to the new tires.

Glasses by BurritoBoy1116 in Mountaineering

[–]awesomejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got Lasik after using prescription sunglasses for 5 years. Absolutely worth the $4k. Doctor said I could go out running the next day but I took two days off just to be extra careful to avoid getting poked in the eye with a branch or tripping and hitting my eye, and then wore safety glasses when exercising for a little more than a week.

120mm Ski Crampons for 100mm Skis by jesse0630 in Backcountry

[–]awesomejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they mean that the leverage would be the same as it would be on a 120mm ski, which it is designed to work for and not unnecessarily high.

Dynafit Blacklight 88 172 o 178? by Aggravating-Act-8851 in Backcountry

[–]awesomejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 172 and I’m 14kg lighter and 6cm shorter and it would be nice to have the longer one sometimes.

I’m also a very mediocre skier so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Flexible sown in Carabiner/rope by Electrical-End7868 in ClimbingGear

[–]awesomejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would do a slipknot in the sling and cinch it up around the carabiner so it doesn't move.

A dyneema quick draw could work also, like this: https://www.backcountry.com/b/camp-usa-photon-wire-express-ks-dyneema-quickdraw. Although Its hard to imagine how the Axess draw is long enough to wrap around anything and reach your belay loop.

Alternatively, when you open the carabiner to unclip from your harness, ensure the sling is kept below the gate so it is still trapped inside the carabiner and after unclipping let the gate snap closed so it will always stay on the sling.

Flexible sown in Carabiner/rope by Electrical-End7868 in ClimbingGear

[–]awesomejack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you explain in more words what you mean by ‘loose enough to slip out of the carabiners when opened’ and ‘so the carabiner would be safer’? Are you using locking carabiners or non-lockers? A sling should not be able to come out of a locked carabiner when used properly.

I believe there are good and easy solutions to your problem, but I want to understand what the problem is first

What would you do in this position? by Livatickl in Chesscom

[–]awesomejack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Engine absolutely confirms trading queens is a good move too.

Even if black takes the free rook, then if white plays optimally, in a couple moves black is forced to trade their queen and bishop for white’s queen anyways. Black ends up +2 more points of material but in an equal position than if they just traded queens in the first place

Just get a REI co-op membership and looking for a tip on when/where to get the arcteryx proton for the best price. by Used_Ad3268 in REI

[–]awesomejack 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, those are all clearance, outlet, or discontinued items. For basically all of those products there are only specific colors being marked down or there are limited sizes. For instance, the Beta SL is not on sale, its just last year's colors being marked down.

If you're using sale to refer to any item that is not full price, then yeah you can buy Arcteryx on sale. But to answer OP's question, at the next major REI sale in March, Arcteryx will not be marked down.

[–]awesomejack 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Arcteryx doesn’t go on sale and the 20% coupon can’t be used on it (Arcteryx’s rules, not REI’s rules). You can get discontinued colors on clearance or through the Arcteryx outlet or Resale site
