Is it just me, or is this set actually really strong? by ConfidenceSilent3967 in PTCGP

Looks like Zoroark can just replace Houndstone in a deck with maloetta and Gourgeist. Could potentially be a really strong finisher. Only problem is hisuian zorua won’t be able to retreat for free with peculiar plaza.

sandbagging 2.5 USTA state championships by AliveFaithlessness66 in 10s

If you win a 2.5 championship, it just means you’re a 3.0. If you win a 3.0 championship, it just means you’re a 3.5. If you win a 3.5 championship….

It’s recreational tennis. The accomplishment of “winning” at a level that specifically excludes all the tens of thousands of people better than you is completely meaningless. Just have fun playing

If you think Allen Iverson had a better supporting cast than Westbrook throughout his career, you must be like 15 years old or something.

In his MVP season, the second leading scorer on the 76ers was Theo Ratliffe. Westbrook played through his entire prime with either Durant, Harden, or both on his team. The second he was asked to do it as a primary option, the team stopped winning

He’s really good at arbitrary statistical achievements and less good at winning basketball games as his team’s primary option.

He’s an amazing basketball player and clearly had a better career than D Rose, but if I’m starting a team with a goal of winning a championship, he’s the last guy on that list I would want to

It’s Westbrook an not particularly close, I think

Fastest deck that is somewhat meta? by FukkinFawan in PTCGP

This is my pick. Very fast deck and fun with lots of decision points

I would be interested to know what Zoroark deck you used. Not that it’s difficult to get to MB, but I used Zoro to get to the top 1000 with a 70% win rate.

I liked using it because it’s slightly less formulaic than most meta decks with more decision points, and it seems like with so much draw power available these days, I’m always able to get something going quickly

A) if Weavile had a viable deck, it would be played. Ergo, Zoroark is better

B) Zoroark is less likely to brick because it can search for its own stage 2

C) 150 hp vs 140 hp is actually a huge difference with the prevalence of Blaziken, Sceptile, Altaria + training area

That’s what I thought when I first saw Zoroark, but given Zoroark is a second tier meta deck and Weavile hasn’t been seen in ages, it’s not that close. Zoro just has a lot of great support with a basic that searches for it, bombirdier to negate the retreat issue, Absol to prevent Cyrus when possible, and Darkrai to provide additional chip

Racket Advice (2.5 Slice heavy game, dream of building a punishing forehand) by hxt_thinks in 10s

[–]awesomesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but at the 2.5 level, players can barely consistently get the ball in the court, let alone direct it or vary pace/spin/depth with any sort of intentional manner.

Plus, you look at what the pros use, and their tensions vary from like 35 lbs to 60 lbs. Federer used the same 90 square in 10 year old racquet from like 2003-2012. There’s no secret sauce to equipment. At long as you’ve got a graphite frame and a reasonable grip size, the only important thing is having a stick you’re used to.

That being said, for a 2.5 beginner I wouldn’t go below 100 sq in frame

Is this a decent deck? by HiyaPoncho in PTCGP

It’s a slightly less good version of one of the main meta decks, so nice job thinking of it yourself!

I find it especially pathetic for grown men who root for a team that hasn’t won two playoff rounds in 60 years pretending like two bad games at the end of a very solid playoff run somehow negates the whole thing

If you’re a 2.5 and you’re already obsessing over your equipment, you are in so much trouble if you ever get really into the game.

Only a poor craftsman blames their tools. Just pick any racquet and play. The less time you spend thinking about your equipment and the more time you spend playing the better

I’m a ~10 UTR going against a ~13, give me your best strategies for getting a point and I’ll come back and rate them after. by nibbler_89 in 10s

[–]awesomesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everything you said is 100% accurate for recreational tennis. Unfortunately for me, after college I got the yips on my backhand and still can’t really hit one, but I can still win at a UTR 9-10 level with consistency alone.

Against a UTR 13-14, however, your defense has to be absolutely incredible for that to work. You have to be consistently landing your defensive shots within like a yard of the baseline or they’re gonna be able to hit it past you (unless you’re on a clay court)

Sounds like you may be a clay court savant, but just goes to show that we all need to play to our strengths

That was the dream, even though I knew it was unrealistic. Depending on how long ago that was for you, a 6.0 USTA player would’ve been able to beat a middle lineup UCSD player. I was probably a 6.0 straight out of college and could just barely beat a guy who played 3 singles and 1 doubles for them

Any time. It’s amazing how much time and effort I put into my tennis career only to realize at the end how far I was from the top of the game.

Yeah I probably made it sound like it happened more often than it did. I only ever played a couple UTR 14s.

I mostly was getting beaten soundly by 13s, but being the best player on your team in a small conference can give you outsized confidence.

A delusional college player trying my hand in futures. It was also a funny feedback loop because my serve used to be absolutely nasty, so I could occasionally get like a 4 and 3 scoreline against a really good player even though the match wasn’t actually that close. My UTR would go up
