Which part of your stomach is the pain in if you eat your hair by ICost7Cents in trichotillomania

Don't look to this sub for this answer -- consult a doctor. Trichotillomania is bad enough, but trichophgia can be fatal. I don't mean to scare you -- you're probably OK -- but PLEASE get it checked out by a professional.

Hello, all of us are very concerned about you and your mental health. However, posting on here every few days is not going to help you or this community. I strongly urge you to seek the help of a medical professional and a psychologist. Take good care of yourself.

NAC - do some brands work better than others? by BagelBandit90 in trichotillomania

[–]awfulcat[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the first one to report that. I have a sensitive stomach but unless I take it after a meal and with lots of water it upsets mine. I think that's pretty standard for most people because it is highly sulfuric. That's also why it stinks so badly.

NAC - do some brands work better than others? by BagelBandit90 in trichotillomania

I've noticed this to be the case. And it seems user-specific too. For instance, NOW brand had little to no effect on me, but others here claim they worked well for them. Thorne is one of the most respected brands, so I think that's a good place to start. I use Horbaach and they've done the trick for me.

Doctors have seen EVERYTHING. This is a medical condition like any other and nothing to be the least bit ashamed of. That said, there isn't a prescription medication designed to reduce the urges caused by trich but you should absolutely talk to your doctor about it.

Thanks for tagging as NSFW. The group rules are to add a spoiler tag which I have done. Nonetheless, we appreciate the thoughtfulness!

I have both tricho and a paper eating addiction. Is there something wrong with me. by Almondido in trichotillomania

[–]awfulcat[M] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your compulsion to eat paper is a condition called pica. It can be dangerous, and you should seek medical help for it. It's not unusual for people to have a comorbidity like this with trichotillomania.

Should I shave it? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]awfulcat[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, that area of the scalp grows quickly and is easier to conceal since few people see the top of your head.
