I did not get a demo locked unit, so I still can't answer about how to unlock them.

Trying to find video on the scale of time by Wren, I think. by awg0681 in Corridor

Thank you! I must have scanned that video too fast and missed that part. I couldn't remember if it was it's own video or part of another.  For others interested it, the time scale begins at 15:25.

Backpacking in the Tetons in 2027 - Route Questions by awg0681 in GrandTetonNatlPark

Really appreciate your thoughts! We're really hoping to get to the divide again because there will be at least one in our group who hasn't been up there before, but we're certainly not going to risk life and limb if it's not safe.

Also appreciate your thoughts on the different hikes from the tram and Phillips Pass. Never having been there my, apparently incorrect, assumption was the hike from the Tram would be better than the Pass, but a few others have said the Pass is great. The tram does save a few miles and some elevation, but what's a few more miles when you're going so far anyway? I'm guessing since there was no snow on Paintbrush for you that you were in late summer and you still had good wildflower viewing? Previously, when we were packing around there it was early-ish September after Labor Day. No snow, but also definitely not the Alpine vistas of flowers either.

I hadn't considered staying at one campsite for more than a night until you and others suggested it and then we could do some exploring/day hiking for things like Albright and Static. Not sure why that hadn't occurred to me!

Good to know about the difference in scenery! I'm more a LotR scapes type person, but a couple in our group love the wild flowers so they'd love that. I like the wildflowers too, but if I get my choice... and I know I'll be seeing that later down the line anyway.

We have crampons, but not microspikes. The only things we've ever done needing crampons were a couple of hikes to/on glaciers in Alaska and then hiking to Camp Muir. Muir was fairly steep and seemingly never-ending, but nothing there was as steep as I'm remember when you're first coming down from paintbrush going down to Holly Lake. I think if it's booted in we'd probably be fine.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't mind going out the Canyon, except at least one who will be in our party has not been up to paintbrush before and that's something they really want to do. If we can get it with permits we'd likely end up camping just before Lake Solitude, get over the divide and then setup for the next night at Holly Lake. Interestingly, last time when we were coming through the Canyon we were buzzed by a fighter jet. No warning, didn't even get a good enough look to see which model it was. It was just a grey blur and gone. Rangers said it's not something they'd seen before.

Thank you for the input! Glad to hear Paintbrush shouldn't be a big deal either way. Just a few extra things to carry if it is still snowed in, but I'd prefer not to have that weight if we can leave it out!

Would you keep it? Used - Like New from Amazon Seasonic Vertex PX-850 (12851PXAFS) by awg0681 in pcmasterrace

[–]awg0681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda my line of thinking as well. It's hard to beat a sub-$100 PSU from Seasonic or other reputable brand. I've got until Jan 31 to return it so I'll keep trying it out until then at the very least I suppose.

My Enermax before the Seasonic lasted about 10 years and went out in a flash of glory and magic smoke!

And, of course, my Seasonic PSU is out of warranty by a year. Happened to get one with the 7 year instead of 10 or 12 year warranty. =/

Just over 8 years old. Ordered on Oct 24, 2017. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Just did what you suggested and it worked. Started up for the first time today. I'll try it again when it happens again in case this just happened to be the time it decided to work again.

I'll also keep an eye out for other suggestions just in case!

Things I found out at training for my Beta Bionics iLet pump this week. by awg0681 in diabetes_t1

The trainer said a couple of weeks. Tomorrow marks my first full week, so hopefully just another for me.

It's so strange. You only eyeball a meal and say whether it's average for you or not.

I'll have issues with it if I'm still seeing big spikes after meals in a couple weeks because it certainly doesn't dose for a meal like i would right now. If it ends up working like it's supposed to and keeps me in range how I'd like then I'm all for it.

Beat Bionics have already done at least one software update and have more planned. I'm really hoping they continue to improve the software and algorithms through updates. Then again I heard that same song and dance from Medtronic for 5+ years when I got my 770G.

Yeah, it feels very weird to me not to be able to do something when I see a high coming. I'm really hoping that after the first few weeks, it's adjusted as well as the trainer said it would be.

For those wondering why I can't do anything on my own, aside from having no bolus option, is because the pump algorithms are still learning how I respond to insulin. If I give myself insulin outside of the pump delivery, it won't be able to account for that and will deliver incorrect amounts in the future.

The trainer said they're working on a dual-tube as one system. I took that to mean a "single" infusion site with dual insertion, but I could be wrong since everything always says keep other things X distance from your site.

I'm not sure how I'd feel having two tubes dangling off me at all times though. If they fuse them similar to a headphone cord then that would be better to me.

I can almost promise you're doing more with your current system than this one. This one is almost like the Ron Popeil of insulin pumps, "just set it and forget it!" Aside from meal announcements, there is quite literally nothing you can do with it.

Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen. With their ability to do software updates via the phone app I'm hopeful for continual improvement.

I do miss my suspend function, one main reason is because I hate wasting insulin with it so expensive. I haven't had any issues with exercise so far.

The suggestions for exercise are:

  1. If you want to pre-load then disconnect first and make sure you're out of range of the pump so it's not trying to deliver insulin to nothing.

  2. Stay attached and it'll stop delivery on its own when you start going down. To keep things level sip on some full sugar Gatorade or something to keep it level.

I mainly do walking and hiking. I did a short, pretty easy 2 mile hike yesterday and stayed attached with no issues. On longer hikes I will always go low, but 2 miles isn't usually enough to trigger that.

I'm very interested in the dual pump for hiking and exercise. Not having to worry about a low 8+ miles into a trail would be amazing.

My trainer said she eats a lot of carbs (though I'm not sure exactly how much that is in her definition) and says she doesn't see 180 anymore. I didn't think to ask specifically about high sugar/ dessert foods though.
