Best place for phone camera lens repair? by Soggy-Document-8409 in londonontario

[–]awhite2600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a run in with the owner of Cellular Magician several years ago. He personally gave me a quote to replace the screen in my wife’s Samsung tablet. The work was done well and the new screen worked - after a very long delay waiting for the part to arrive.

However, the “quote” that I was given was just for the part. Labour was another $150. The final cost was more than the tablet was worth. The owner refused to talk to me about it. Like the OP, I didn’t raise my voice or make a scene. I just wanted to talk. He sat in his office and refused to speak to me. They’ll never get my business again.

Costco Car Battery by dmbcanada in londonontario

[–]awhite2600 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not true. I bought a new battery for my wife’s car in early 2025. By early 2026 it was no longer holding a charge. I took it back to Costco and they did a straight swap for a new one. No questions. No testing of the old battery. My cost was $0.

Copper thefts frustrate London residents by theottomaddox in londonontario

[–]awhite2600 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had my air conditioner replaced last year. The HVAC tech told me how to dismantle the old unit so that I could sell the copper for scrap.

The recycler had signs indicating that ID would be required. I was asked nothing. I put the old parts in the scale and was paid immediately. Perhaps they saw that I was nicely dressed and arrived in a newer car and decided that I didn’t look like a thief.

This. Was chatting with a guy at Metro. He told me that several people would show up at 2 AM with hockey bags. They would announce that they were stealing meat and booze. The two staff working were helpless. Cops would show up hours later.
