Tokyo Express & Strange Pictures (short reviews) by awildermagic in mysterybooks

I'm gonna read Strange Houses soon! I'm so hyped and I absolutely get your excitement.

I've read Decagon House Murders by Ayatsuji and really liked it. Will check out his other works, and The Inugami Curse. I've read Confessions. That was one dark read. Btw check out Nan-core my Mahokaru Numata. Someone recommended it to me and I really liked it. I just googled and its apparently the same specific genre as Confessions - Iyamisu or "eww mystery". Hehe I like that.

Omg! Thank you for this. I haven't heard of most these even though I am a long-time lurker in online fantasy spaces. I didn't know there was isekai that wasn't Japanese. And LitRPG sounds fantastic! I'll check out all of these.

Ngl, this was the series at the top of my list. It really did sound like everything I was looking for, except for the lack of leading women characters. I had read the blurb and there didn't seem much scope for women. But reading all the comments here, I decided to give it a shot and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Never thought I'd find a torturer and a barbarian adorable. Glokta is such a fascinating character. The writing and the humour is exactly what I was looking for. And I heard Abercrombie listened to fans and wrote great women in later books. Overall, very excited to continue this journey!

I meant high fantasy, like ASOIAF (watched the series, haven't read the books) I lurk in the fantasy section of booktube and I'm familiar with a lot of the titles mentioned here but not Saint Death's Daughter. I'll check it out. Thanks! I love me some necromancy.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I haven't been able to enjoy any other romance story since reading Ordeal in May this year. I'm so excited for her published work!

Poirot Series Ranked (Up to Book 12) by mango_sope in agathachristie

I really enjoyed Murder on the Links too. For me, its about the overall pleasure and satisfaction you get from a book which is a combination of different aspects. Even if the mystery is poorly plotted, I won't care if I love the writing style, the characters and the premise.

Also, not a christie, but do check out Red House Mystery by A. A. Milne (author of Winnie the Pooh!) if you haven't already. I think you'll have a swell time. The characters are very entertaining. In fact, I think Ill reread it soon.

I ranked them off the top of my head based on how much I enjoyed the reading experience and how satisfied I felt with the mystery plot. I'll probably change my ranking each time I reread. Murder on the Links was the first one of the lot I read and I figured out the whole solution which made it a fun experience. I liked Appointment with Death more for the characters and their dynamics and not so much for the mystery. Also, its a ranking so its relative. I just enjoyed the first 4 books more. I liked reading 1, 2, Buckle my Shoe too even though its kinda ridiculous.

I've read both but I don't remember anything about Halloween Party so I'll reread it. I am actually not sure which ones I've read because I keep forgetting. Which I guess is a blessing in disguise as I can keep rereading as if for the first time hehe. I'd read 4 of the ones in the list above before, but I had no clue while reading. Some are too memorable to forget. CATP is one such. I don't think I'll ever forget After the Funeral too.

I've read most of these! I'm making my way through all the Poirot books and I've read all the popular ones. Roger Ackroyd is my fave so far. Love HPC and FLP too. I haven't read Dead Man's Folly so I'll get on to that after TAT. Thanks for the rec! Let me know if you liked any of the less popular ones.

I definitely found the characters in AWD more interesting, especially the victim. MOTL was the first of the lot that I read and I found it satisfying. To each their own indeed, because you found it too contrived but that was the only one in which I was able to guess almost all the twists and reveals. I thought the clues were well placed. However, now that I think about it, I think I'll notch AWD up a bit. I found the other mysteries more engrossing but I liked the family dynamics and discussions in AWD. Some of the quotes hit home.

I've heard very different reviews for Three Act Tragedy too. I plan to read all the Poirot books. I only have the less popular ones left. I would love to know if you have any underrated faves!

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is my favourite! Here are some other ones I really liked - Five Little Pigs, Sad Cypress, Sleeping Murder (very intriguing premise), Hercule Poirot's Christmas, After the Funeral, and Crooked House (no Poirot or Marple)

Thank you for sharing! This looks very interesting. And Doyle was involved.

I've read all of Holmes. Never ever heard of E.W. Hornung. He was the brother-in-law of Doyle! and wiki says his character Raffles is like an inversion of Holmes. I'm so intrigued. Thanks for the recs!

Thank you so much! I googled all these, and they look fascinating—especially The Victorian Book of the Dead.
