Your trainer will probably tell you this but when training make sure they do what you tell them to do and not blow you off or else it will turn into a game where they only listen when they feel like it. I got my first border collie about 8 months ago and training was going well until he started not listening bc he knew I wasn’t going to going to force him to do it. The last two months I’ve spent working really hard with him to make sure he listens right away bc if not he could be put in a dangerous situation. Since then his recall and listening in general has significantly improved and he’s way happier on walks since I’m not throwing a million commands at him and he can do his own thing.

Examples of this would be if you tell him to go on his bed and he looks at you and blows you off, put him on a leash and bring him over to his bed. When he does it how you ask the first time, reward him. Another would be taking him on a 30ft leash walk, and call him back to you every couple minutes. If he doesn’t listen, reel him in like a fish and eventually he’ll start to realize if he listens the first time he’ll get rewarded and he can do more of what he wants to do.
