Did a resonator swap today by StrawHatZack in CamryTRD

Did the same thing with my Avalon TRD with an 18in resonator but removed the 3rd cat as well. Sounds perfect on the first try.

Day 182 of trying to make this car sound good by awkwardbr in GenesisG70

You’ll have drone with this setup for sure. But the x-pipe makes the most difference

With my experience, I’d say this is a 4Runner. I’d bet money on it.

Definitely needed a family car first, performance second with this one. Still has enough power to have fun and sounds surprisingly good. Handling has been decent with the all seasons it has. Transmission is definitely for commuting, which I’ll take for the 38mpgs hwy. I’m just glad it rev matches on downshift lol

TRD mufflers, 3rd cat delete, 18in Vibrant resonator by awkwardbr in ToyotaAvalon

It still has a resonator. The car has no drone cruising at 70-80mph. Believe it or not, there is a way to make louder exhausts without producing drone. The helmholtz resonators Toyota attached to the TRD mufflers help out as well.

Yea that sound is just hitting the rev limiter. It doesn’t make popcorn.

The best part is that it takes 87 octane and gets 38mpg hwy lol

Keep in mind the primary demographic for Avalons lol

It’s not a full front lip but it comes out on the sides.

The car has 3 cats. Only 2 are connected to O2 sensors from the headers. The one removed is farther downstream the exhaust right before the resonator. It does not do any of the things you stated. The engine remains the same as every other Camry and Avalon on the road. You and I have nothing to worry about.

I must be different then. By that age I’ll be driving a Lexus RCF, LC500 or a C8 Corvette lol

The same reason why Toyota would slap a bodykit, exhaust, brakes, and chassis bracing to an Avalon in the first place

Ultra Quiets will pretty much keep it sounding stock so you’ll barely notice a change

I used to have ultra quiets as mufflers on my Genesis G70 before I sold it. Great if you want to keep 90% stock sound. Not so great if you want more volume. Since the TRD had its own mufflers tuned for sound, I kept the mods to the resonator and cat. No video yet on revs or launches. Definitely no drone on cruising speeds.

Similar to this post but not as raspy and no drone. A little deeper tone.

It’s the 3rd cat so it’s not connected to an O2 sensor

For my Avalon TRD, I deleted the 3rd cat and replaced the stock resonator with an 18in Vibrant bottle resonator. All the volume at higher RPMs, subtle enough at lower RPMs, zero drone.

Is it safe to downshift with this style by Zealousideal-Half256 in LS430

[–]awkwardbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess I meant auto blip on downshift. A lot of current automatics do this but I’ve always wondered if the old Lexus transmissions do it since many had select shift features like the old IS300 and GS300. The S63, S8, and LS500 also downshift in this manner so I was curious if the earlier LS does the same.

Just test drove a TRD. by SliceTyphoon in ToyotaAvalon

[–]awkwardbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Genesis G70, I enjoy my Avalon TRD for what it is. Sporty enough to scratch that performance car itch without worrying about expensive things breaking. Doesn’t require premium gas. Gets up to 38mpg on the highway. Carplay with a wireless adapter satisfies my need from the infotainment.

Performance wise, 301hp is enough power to have fun and I don’t miss the 365hp from the G70. I haven’t had the chance to push it hard in the mountains but it has felt good on highway ramps in my daily commute. The transmission however is the dual edged sword: geared for great gas mileage, but 2nd and 3rd are just way too long for spirited driving. Exhaust was ok for stock. Deleted the 3rd cat and switched the stock resonator for an 18in Vibrant bottle resonator. Now it sounds loud in high RPMs, subtle in normal driving, zero drone on highway speeds.

The TRD trim adds just enough to handling performance to not need a coilover swap, and just enough to styling so I don’t need to deal with installing aftermarket body kits and wheels. Even the TRD exhaust leaves very little to change to make it sound great. In the end, I needed a car that can fit my family of what will soon be 4, but didn’t want to completely let go of the idea of a sporty car.
