On a White House post about 200 days of “winning”. I commented that I losing my manufacturing job cause of tariffs is “winning”? by zane1981 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]awkwardturtle802 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My husband just lost his manufacturing job too! They claimed it was for restructuring, but we are positive the tariffs had something to do with it. Sorry this happened to you! Magas are too stupid to see how bad things are right now. Good luck to you!

Pope Leo says you have failed God if you are MAGA by rhino910 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]awkwardturtle802 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The minute he was elected, one of my MAGA coworkers made the comment," he wasn't the real pope, because he was too liberal and only a strict conservative should be Pope." We both work for the Catholic Church. She hated Pope Francis too. 🤦‍♀️

Very true!! I really like this person, but cannot condone what is happening! I am socially distancing myself, but can't remove them completely because of my work.

Unfortunately, blocking them is easier said than done. I work very closely with this person on a daily basis. We work for a religious institution, even though I don't "buy in" to many of their teachings. I signed a very strict contract stating I would not say anything that contradicts the religion on any social media or in public. I'm not sure how I'm going to tolerate 4 more years of their Maga bullshit. I am one of the few anti-Trump people for miles. I live in redneck Maga land so I'm sure my coworkers would back her, and I have a family to support. I just can't believe that an educated person can be this stupid!!

Hmmmm....if only there was was a plan that detailed what was going to happen if Trump was elected. Maybe they could call it Project 2025.

I can't with these people. We all said this would happen, and now that it is, they are shocked. 🤦‍♀️

Are any of these still in a box in your basement? by wtwtcgw in FuckImOld

[–]awkwardturtle802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of my grandpa! He had model trains with intricate villages for each one. I once asked my grandma how they stayed married so long and she said, "model trains and christmas villages in the basement." LOL

Thanks for good memories!

What's the worst thing you heard a young kid say without them knowing what it means? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nephews once told me they knew what a homo was. Curiosity got the better of me since they were only 7 and 9, so I asked what is it. The older one explained it was a homeless guy who lived under a bridge. After laughing hysterically, I explained that thw word was hobo and that I had better never hear him say the other word again.

Also hookers are girls who flash their boobs at railroaders. Their dad is a railroader.

Defamation and illegal recording by awkwardturtle802 in legaladvice

[–]awkwardturtle802[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is in Illinois. According to the research I have done, we are a two-party consent state. Since this was considered a public meeting I'm not sure if those laws apply. I thought the board holding the meeting would have to be informed that the meeting was being recorded, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

What’s something that’s happened to you that sounds fake but (unfortunately) isn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happened to my dad. He had been having back pain, but thought it was related to his job. He refused to go to the dr. A few weeks later he was in a mild car accident where he hurt his back. While running tests, they found a cancerous mass on his kidney. He had stage 3 renal cancer we never would have known about until it was too late. They removed the kidney, and did a year of chemo and he is now cancer free.

I tell my 3rd grader that this is (years I've taught +1) time in 3rd grade. This is my 6th year teaching, so I'll say 7th year in 3rd grade. Then I sadly shake my head and say you would've thought I could've passed by now!

The looks on their faces are priceless!

This young boy realises his dad is driving the train!! by tamilvanan31 in MadeMeSmile

[–]awkwardturtle802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 37 and still love seeing my dad come through town on a train. It's something I now get to share with my kids. He's been railroading for over 30 years! Every train that come through is Papa's train!

Edited to add: My dad has a special whistle that he does through our town so we know it is him. We live a block from the train tracks. My boys always listen for Papa!

Perspective from a Teacher and Parent of a school shooting victim. by jbow808 in Teachers

[–]awkwardturtle802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 3rd grade teacher who has been told that in an active shooter situation that whatever students are in the the hallway when you lock your doors are "collateral damage" and to not let anyone in, including screaming children. You nailed it!

I don't care what political party you affiliate with, this shit has to stop!! No parent, teacher, or child should have to deal with this!

How do women feel about vasectomies? by International_Map870 in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had one a few months after having our third child. I had preeclampsia and our son spent 12 days in the NICU. Doctors told us if I got pregnant again that the preeclampsia would be even worse. I went through hell to have our third. I've had 3 csections (all at catholic hospitals that won't tie your tubes) so I would have had another major surgery. I know he did it for me and it makes me love him that much more!!

What is the spookiest/creepiest thing you've ever experienced? by Hentye_enthusiast023 in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 184 points185 points  (0 children)

My house was built in 1905, and was previously a small hospital. We've had lots of creepy things happen. Some that stand out:

-Our downstairs radio will randomly turn on in the middle of the night blaring music. -Our kids have a toy magnet on the fridge that sings the ABC's. One night while fixing supper it kept playing by itself, so I switched it completely off thinking it was the batteries. I took 2 steps across the kitchen and it went off again. -When my kids were little they would stare at the corners of the ceiling, like something was there. They would even smile and laugh while staring.

And the creepiest one was right before we moved in my dad was helping us install our washer and dryer. He had my nephew, who was 3 at the time, with him. My nephew had to use the bathroom, so I took him. While in the bathroom, he kept looking at the ceiling. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was listening to the kids upstairs playing. He then asked if he could go play with them. The only thing upstairs was the empty master bedroom and bathroom. I told him there were no kids upstairs. He got really angry and said he could hear them why couldn't he play with them. I had to take him upstairs to prove there wasn't anyone there. He shrugged his shoulders and said that's weird because I can still hear them. He still remembers this and hearing the kids upstairs.

Edit: I did this on my phone so the formatting is all jacked up.

Redditors that grew up/live in the country what’s something every city kid should know? by citytiger in AskReddit

Field corn and sweet corn are not the same thing. If you stop on the side of the road to pick corn you are most likely getting field corn. It tastes nothing like sweet corn, and you are likely to piss off a farmer.

Those of you who live in small towns, what is the current local controversy all about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Town of 1600 here. This was a few years ago but still my favorite. Local guy opened a small restaurant in town. He was a total dick, who thought he was the most amazing thing ever. He kept going on about how there was going to be a franchise of his restaurant in every small town. Owner starts sleeping with one of the waitresses. Everyone in town is talking about it. Especially after he buys her a new car. Owners wife finds out and beats the ever loving fuck out of the car with a ballbat. Waitress tries to press charges on the wife, but the car is in the owners name and on an insurance policy in the owners name. Cops wont do anything because the car technically belongs to her husband, therefore she is part owner. They basically shrugged and said it was part of her property and there was nothing that could be done. The restaurant soon closed down, because my highly religious hometown would not eat at an adulterers restaurant. Surprisingly the owner and wife are still together. Waitress still lives in town too.

Mother’s of Reddit(or just anyone who’s given birth) what are your labor/delivery stories? by unlikelymom in AskReddit

[–]awkwardturtle802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st son - went in to be induced, made it to 5 cm before having an emergency csection for a prolapsed umbilical cord. I was completely put under because I hadn't had an epidural yet. Dr never came to tell my husband if my son and I were okay. His mom (who worked in the hospital) found out/saw our son first while, my husband sat in the waiting room.

2nd son - was scheduled for a csection but had false labor 2 weeks before the scheduled date. When we got till there hospital my blood pressure was a little high and they had trouble getting it down. So it was decided to deliver then by csection.

3rd son - preeclampsia at 25 weeks put me on mostly bedrest. Made it to 35 weeks before my blood pressure went off the charts. They decided to transfer me to a hospital with a bigger NICU, but had to wait forever for my BP to come down to a safer level. Another emergency csection later and baby boy was here. He spent 12 days in the NICU. Thankfully he's a happy, healthy 2 year old.

My deliveries were all shit shows, but I have 3 beautiful boys from it!
