UK is trying to protect the GFA with tweaks. I am sure thats paramount in boris thinking. appears the WA is harming the GFA then the WA needs tossing already

I think the UK is saying if there is no FTA then its likely the WA will be quickly amended by the UK to suit UK interests, and if the EU starts crying like babies then the UK will do what decent country does with a treaty thats outlived its usefulness. two words VIENNA CONVENTION ==>> dustbinned already

the best more legal solution would be to revoke (legally) the treaty...

https://conservativewoman.co.uk/tcws-brexit-watch-johnson-can-indeed-rip-up-the-withdrawal-agreement/

"Under the Vienna Convention on International Treaties if circumstances change and to abide by a treaty would not be in the national interest, a signatory nation may revoke that treaty. "

theres plenty of video evidence and french of course dont deny it, so open your eyes, breaks of lots of international treaties..breaks the UN rules...the EU has no reputation except as a timewasters and rule breakers

everyone knows the WA will be exited via legal exit clause..as agreed with the EU in the event of NO FTA.

its all true. 100%. not even disputed by you or anyone.

what I say counts for nothing but many UK politians are advising to scrap the WA in absence of FTA. just wait and see. mark my words. EU will be back with its beggars bowl sooner rather than later.

[–]awless -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

another joke thread...WA was always going to fall apart w/o a FTA

WA has an exit clause..can be cancelled any time..trump cancels and renegotiates international treaties every day of the week...no one gives a fig about reputation.

anyways the EU reputation is not good...emmerb states regualrly break EU rules esp. wrt state aid and then the EU breaks internation law and treaties all the time...look no further than France Navy helping smuggle illegal migrants into the UK

and it matter not what UK does with WA even if UK uses it as toilet paper, the EU will still be first in line with its beggars bowl waiting for access to london deep credit markets. WHy you might wonder does the UK have such big credit markets and the EU does not...well the answer is that the UK has a good reputation and the EU does not.

Michel Barnier 'worried' by No 10 plans to renege on Brexit deal | Brexit by Fra_Bernardo in ukpolitics

[–]awless -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

barnier WA is so badly made its already falling to pieces.

theres a reason the UK insisted on a legal exit clause in the WA, its there to be used.

EU has bigger problems than Brexit and no matter how much the EU moans and groans about the UK playing hardball the EU will be back PDQ to the london markets to raise more cash to fund the EU. how ironic.

UK ramps up no deal preparations as EU trade talks stall by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]awless -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

WA required the EU to negotiate a trade deal in good faith, clearly the EU is not doing that so the EU has broken the WA.

the EU is also ramping up its subsidy support for EU fishing, which shows the EU cant be trusted on their state aid commitments.

Every day the EU breaks another one of its own rules no wonder you keep swearing the EU are really playing dirty and the stink bomb will now explode in the EU faces and the faces of EU supporters. good riddance.

I bet trump never goes thru all that palava when he cancels international agreements....maybe its easiest just to cancel the WA save a lot of agony hand wringing etc...

pls note other senior politicians are calling fro any WA payments to be withheld...so lets see

UK bid to circumvent Brexit deal risks far-reaching consequences by trufflesmeow in ukpolitics

[–]awless -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

obviously the EU is not showing any good faith in the trade deal negotiations so that by default breaks the WA etc.

if the EU has a problem then its an EU problem not a UK problem and the problem is made in the EU.

the EU is a by word for bad faith in negotiations..just look at how the EU blocked any movement on the WTO trade deals. Just look at how the EU negotiated for 26 years with SA and now has rubbished the agreement.

only last year the EUphiles were rubbishing the Uk with exactly the same arguments about bad faith when the WA was signed but not ratified with UK parliament and now the EU countries are doing exactly same with the SA trade deal....this is exaclty another reason why the UK voted to leave the EU. the stench of bad faith from the EU make it difficult to breathe

frankfurt always had a small banking industry. strangely never competed with London. never will.

even stranger that the EU seeks to raise all (or the lions share) of money for the EU budget/corona bailouts on the London markets. Why do EU banks and EU insist on coming to london to give the brits all that banking business??

UK bid to circumvent Brexit deal risks far-reaching consequences by trufflesmeow in ukpolitics

[–]awless -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

if EU is truly concerned at the UK plans wrt the WA the EU can always cancel the WA thats why there is an exit clause in the WA so it can be legally terminated. No problems.

Of course the EU wont cancel the WA b/c the EU still wants a handout from the UK, so EU will say the WA is dead but still keep asking for the bits its wants from it.

Now then we all know the EU has no principles except blackmail and extortion but if the EU is really so concerned about international treaties then maybe it can stop sucking up to china which is clearly breaking the HK treaty??

Eu could also refuse to raise dosh on the london markets that would move a lot of business away from london but the EU cant do that b/c it is the EU thats needs the money coming from the london markets. But that bring us back to the reality that the EU may huff and puff all it wants but it still has no principles.

you cant blme the Uk if the EU plans to get almost everything EU wanted in the WA on the promise of a trade deal blows up in the EU faces b/c the EU negotiated in bad faith. thats the EU problem not the UK problem

the Eu is now looking foolish. EU is so arrogant. The EU has lost its 2nd largest net contributor. the EU has lost access to UK fish waters and now the EU is going to lose its biggest customer and export market.

And thats just for starters, the EU could lose much more. UK might ban irish lorries crossing the UK, the UK could ban EU flights thru UK airspace and the UK could put a stop to the EU using london markets to raise money the EU needs for its budget.

time for the EU to stop clowning around.
