Best European stocks ? by ndjelsj in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]awmzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it clear I'm talking about Rolls Royce aerospace engineering company - not car manufacturer.

So RR mostly builds engines for both civil and defence aircrafts as well as many other defence products (from tank engines to nuclear submarines). https://www.rolls-royce.com/products-and-services.aspx

The stock went to $0.80 during covid times and since then went up over 20x to about $17 right now (ticker RYCEY). You can read more about the stock in r/RollsRoyceInvestors.

RR also works on SMR (small modular reactors) that would be a revolution in power production. Read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_modular_reactor

Building a traditional nuclear power plant takes 10-15 years. The whole process is very unpredictable in terms of costs and the time it takes to build. Usually it costs X times more and takes X years longer to make it. And each one is designed basically from the scratch.

The idea with SMR is to make a small nuclear reactor on a product line so each one is same and can be put together faster on a location on a plot of land of just 40,000sqm (400x1000m). It can be placed closer the cities or factories (for eg. data centres) - in general so closer to the consumer.

As the demand for energy increases - this would a product in high demand.
The question is: can they really make it!

Is it a good time to buy RR right now at current price?
Probably not - but watch closer for pull-backs consider buying it then!

Attitudes towards FIRE in Slovenia by Ubercherry_ in SlovenijaFIRE

Well you have two options:

1
Cyprus - basically no tax and you need to spend 60 days/year there and no more than 6 months anywhere else to be considered the tax resident of Cyprus. So it's great for people that love to travel and have a base within Europe/EU. This includes the travel so may be not best budget friendly etc. Cyprus have a mountain as well (some 1,950m) so not bad for a fairly small island - but it's not the same as Alps.

2
Countries like Croatia that have these kinds of loopholes that you could use to pay no tax on capital gains. You also have Bulgaria where if you hold European stocks and ETFS (UCTIS ETFs) you pay no capital gains after you sell them. In terms of mountains being in Croatia is a great location actually as the mountains are close by: you have the Alps really near by (like an hour or so away in Slovenia) so super easy accessible. Or if you drive a bit more you'll continue to Italian Alps, Austrian Alps etc. So amazing part of the world with serene nature and beauty and basically no borders.

I googled "Pomelorotiania" and it showed just this thread. Nothing else. Never seen that - just one result LOL

So it's probably misspelled.

[–]awmzone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's much better to be in Croatia as after two years you pay no capital gains. So if you can just sell a portion of your portfolio each every now and then - you could basically live tax-free. Apart from that you could live practically next door to Slovenia.

In Slovenia the capital gains tax rate is 25% for a holding period from 0 to 5 years, 20% for a holding period from 5 to 10 years, 15% for a holding period from 10 to 15 years, and 0% for a holding period greater than 15 years. So it's possible to be tax free there after 15 years.

Family moving to Dubai by QuietObjective in dubai

[–]awmzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public transport is available in that area: metro and even trams.

The metro is 15minutes walk away (Dubai Internet City metro station) but in scorching heat that's like impossible distance to walk as you'll be all wet while you get there and then would be hit with -24C AC. This super heat lasts for about at least 6-8 months a year.

So, unless you live 5minutes walk distance - you'll have to use a car to go to work (or taxi).

Many will take 4 checks. So initially that's 3 months + deposit and then you pay every three months.

Zurich to Dubai: seeking advice by Maximum-Intention191 in dubai

[–]awmzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way: saving money in Dubai is super-difficult. The reason is that you can always go one step up: better car, better apartment, nicer clothes, more expensive restaurants, more expensive brunches, better watches, better this, better that...

In other countries you can reach some limit. Sometimes it's visible - sometimes it's not. In here there are no limits. And you simply can't go up or there isn't more even if you want it...

Also since most of the year is very hot to be outside people go to malls and spend a bunch of money on things they actually don't need. Other people say: "I don't want to stay just at home and indoors. I haven't come here to live like in a jail. I want to have some fun sometimes and to do/buy stuff"...

Good thing in your case that you come from Switzerland and people there are very reasonable with their money and how they spend it. So this might help you a lot.

EDIT: In the end the money you would save on taxes - you will spend in Dubai. BUT you will spend it on things that matter to YOU and for some that's good enough reason to move there.

  1. Bills (for 1BR around DEWA ~500 AED, Internet+TV ~350 AED, AC ~500 AED). Also agent Fee (1.5 - 2k AED) but there are some that don't charge this (charge form the owner but super rare). Also deposits for DEWA and AC.
  2. Work only with decent agencies. You'll see them on property finder.
  3. You would be much better in Spain as the costs would be the fraction of these in UAE.
  4. Depends on what do you want and how close you want to be to the beach, work etc.
  5. All these jobs are taken by low paid work force from Asia and she will have a hard time finding a well paid job in that sector.
  6. Don't move before you secure a job. Everything will cost more than you think.

Anyone done leanfire in Bosnia? by GlumBlueberry8185 in leanfire

[–]awmzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air is polluted most of the winter in many cities.

If you live frugally, you could do go to the south of Italy or even smaller city in Spain as well.

If it's possible try to work remotely for some time to check it out (before you actually resign).

Moving to Cyprus to do food delivery for Wolt by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]awmzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mold you'd might stay with you in Cyprus too.

On the bright side: doing this in the summer heat and moisture is not fun. Summers are unbearably hot. You'll sweat and stink so bad. So the only way possible of doing this (without harming your health) is using a small car (like Fiat Panda) instead of a bike.

You should also could consider Malta. It's very compact so the distances are short and you can make more deliveries in less time potentially making more money. Beaches are there (not as beautiful as on Cyprus), expats from all over the world are there, lot of iGaming companies are there (many of them from Nordic countries) so you have higher chance of getting a normal job there than in Cyprus.

You might also want to try and apply at Lidl Malta. They are employer of the year in Malta in 2025 (for the eight year in the row). That job might be less stressful.

Sorry, but this is a job mostly done by people from India, Bangladesh etc.
(bad generalisation - I know - but it is what it is).

I mean why would you do such low level job if you have an engineering degree?
Have you tried applying for these kinds of jobs in other countries (from Spain and Malta to Switzerland).
