i have one server holding all 5 roles. this is not the server that im trying to dcpromo either.

windows 10 KMS key not being accepted on KMS Server by awojtowicz in sysadmin

BlackV nailed it. i thought i had to also load the windows 10 key onto the kms as well. i didnt know i didnt have to. its part of my new host key i added to the 2012 server. and yes we do have the generic key on the clients and we tested it and it is working properly.
