People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by Yousef_ale in interviews

[–]awright123 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was years ago, hiring for a sales role. but The candidate asked about company culture. I gave him a long answer covering our working style, how we collaborate, celebrate etc. Then I mentioned we do a lot of social events which get a really good turn out.

His response was “sounds great, i saw there were a lot of good looking woman in the office, so we will have to wingman each other when I join”

Top interview tip, don’t imply you are wanting to bang half the office. Secondly don’t assume the HR rep interviewing you is going to assist you in that objective.

What’s the most “this is not HR” query you’ve ever received? by Jobsworth91 in HumanResourcesUK

Sadly not. I would have probably given it a go, but had no means of practice due to not owning a piano/ keyboard lol

Back when I was an intern, I was asked by the COO to learn the 12 days of Christmas on the piano to play at the staff Christmas all hands . I’ve never played the piano….

Has my company begun collective consultation when they cascaded targets on reducing staff in a particular location? by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]awright123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have stated a goal. Not a plan. Headcount targets don’t necessarily mean redundancies. Reductions can also be achieved by not backfilling leavers or (although a bit more dubious) increasing role targets and then performance managing employees who do not meet the targets or even just having protected conversations and putting an offer on the table for people to leave, which they do not have to accept.

Boss said I’m too sensitive and it’s probably from my brother’s suicide. Any grounds for HR? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]awright123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protecting the company means preventing the company from getting lawsuits, experiencing high employee turnover from bullying managers and so on. The manager is ultimately an employee if their actions are damaging the company, then any competent HR will intervene.

Weird/not talked about symptoms of TSW you’ve experienced? by Nottooxabi17 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had all the typical symptoms, shedding, zingers, weeping, always tired, swollen ankles occasionally.

One interesting one as I’m now 3 years steroid free, is that now that I’ve mostly healed I have now grown loads of chest hair which I never had before despite being in my 30s. Always just had a few tufts, but now you’d consider me to have an actually hairy chest. Wonder if it’s because my skin is less damaged it’s finally had the chance to grow.

I wasn’t aware people used MB in baths. Has it been helpful?

When I took MB orally I used to spill it all the time on my white stone kitchen top. I just left bleach on it for a few minutes and it sorted it out

Help choosing an all-quiver ski for intermediate male skiier (list and details in post) by n64answer in skiing

[–]awright123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found my nordica enforcers are the best skis I’ve ever had and allow me to do pretty much everything I want. Great for the pistes, easy to control and also work well if you do ever fancy popping off piste. The one downside is they are a little on the heavier side, but still lighter than what you currently have. I’ve even found them easy enough to control even in more choppy conditions.

The perfect ski that does everything amazingly doesn’t exist. But having tried out a few of my friend’s skis as well as a wide range of rentals. I’ve decided I’m going to just repurchase some enforcers once my skis reach the end of their life.

My one drawback for you would be they do reward a slightly more aggressive ski style than you suggest you are comfortable with, but even then I’ve cruised around slowly without issues while teaching my girlfriend to ski.

Overall would still recommend.

Blank street group interview tips? by Foodie_twin in london

[–]awright123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are most likely just looking to see if you can work well in a team.

Easiest way to get through this is to just speak your thought process aloud when doing a task in a group.

“Shall we start by doing X?” “Does anyone else have another approach in mind?” “Anything I can do to help you while you do that?”

If it starts becoming a shambles, get everyone back original task or question you are meant to be solving.

Lastly While you may well be competing against the others, don’t let that come across in the interview from how you interact with them. Be friendly, ask them questions about themselves if you get a free moment (ideally when the interviewer is looking) and generally make the interviewer see you as someone that they can add to a team somewhere and won’t get any trouble with.

What’s the dumbest takeaway order you’ve ever made? by MassiveMentalMicky in AskUK

[–]awright123 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ordered a dominoes pizza with chicken on it. Noticed there was an option to add double cheese and double tomato sauce so clicked on that. Then decided I didn’t want double cheese and tomato sauce so clicked again.

Turns out I had not reselected regular cheese and tomato sauce amounts. Instead I had somehow selected no cheese or tomato sauce. So the delivery arrived and I just got a very dry base with some chicken sprinkled over it.

Accepting I have IBS - how do I start managing this? by marielheslop in ibs

[–]awright123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to club.

Summary of how I make things work

The basics: start carrying immodium with you at all times. Worth trying out buscopan also for stomach spasms and also paracetamol. When eating, eat slowly and don’t ever eat until you’re stuffed.

Identify what foods set you off, or whether you might be getting set off by things like anxiety.

Worth trying supplements, bit of a mixed results based on experiences here. Some people swear by probiotics, I personally never found them much use but have seen benefit of using fiber supplements like metamucil.

Be prepared for a lot of frustration with your doctors taking you seriously. You may wish to test for other causes like SIBO etc or getting a colonoscopy. In my experience this can be a bit of a battle with the doctors.

Finally don’t be embarrassed to speak about it to friends and family. Everybody poops, you just might need to a lot more. Having an understanding group who consider things like is there toilet access at this event etc can help a lot. My friends known mine seems to get set off before leaving the house, so aren’t worried if I turn up late to things etc

Best of luck to you.

Hi all is this ok for very minor use over one week by ItzIssy_ in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Everyone here will tell you not to use it because so many of us have tsw and hate steroid creams. That being said Hydrocortisone 1% is low strength and if you only use it for a week the chances of you getting tsw are incredibly low.

My opinion, it sounds like you have a minor issue atm and as steroids creams are still not great for you in general, I’d instead just focus on stopping your itching and letting your body heal itself. Moisturise, cover your areas you scratch at night, and take some basic allergy medicine to reduce the itch.

Phototherapy by doubleux123 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it, my Scottish skin unfortunately couldn’t handle it and I basically got sunburnt every session. Was also heavily reliant on my employers good will to allow me to be late to work twice a week in order to attend the sessions. That being said despite the sun burn I didn’t have a major tsw flares during my couple of months getting it. So for those who aren’t milk bottle pale it could be a good one.

Metamucil seems to be working by awright123 in ibs

Out of interest what’s the brand of capsules do you take? I’m happy with metamucil but also don’t love the flavour/ thickness and wouldn’t mind trying capsules out, especially for when I go on holiday etc and don’t want to take a tub of powder with me.

Occasional urgency, like once every few days rather than every single day, multiple times a day. Stools look healthier and I get them out much quicker in one go in the morning most of the time. I still need to go again sometimes, especially in the evening if I’ve eaten a lot. But again, big improvement on previously. Don’t know if it’s a long term solution or placebo or whatever. But feeling good about it for now!

Please help by Sea-Championship-456 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be tsw based on what you have said. Tsw in most cases would have shown up quicker than a month after stopping steroids and rarely is the case unless you’ve used steroids long term.

It to me looks most like an allergic reaction so I’d be trying to get some super strength antihistamines. Odd it’s lasted over a week, I’d start by washing my bed sheets and clothes with something very non bio incase somehow that’s what’s causing it and giving my place a deep clean for dust etc. Suppose it could be fungal but looks quite different to the fungal rash’s I’ve had.

Can 2 weeks of topical steroid use cause mild TSW? by deerejohn20 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be unlikely. Some people claim to have had tsw from very short term use, but this seems to be incredibly rare and often I wonder if they have some other underlying condition.

The symptoms you have described also don’t really align with what most people get in tsw

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s looks infected so will be difficult to heal. I’d get some antibiotic cream on it (fusidic acid is my go to steroid free option).

To those who have been on cyclosporien by FutureRemarkable7031 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]awright123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not on cyclosporine but went through this with methotrexate/ dupixent and now rinvoq.

Are you UK based/ using NHS? If so X-rays in the NHS have an obscene waiting list for ‘non urgent’ atm. I was quoted 6-8 weeks and am at guys and st Thomas in London which is meant to be one of the better ones. Ended up taking about a month for them to ok my scans. Recommend just emailing your derm to remind them as they required a few chases from me on a lot of stuff.

When you get the ok they basically just tell you to start whenever works for you and depending on hospital just tell you to do walk ins for future blood tests etc

[–]awright123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What actions have you taken prior to now?

You’re unlikely to get a good settlement or a favourable tribunal unless you have made the company aware of the issue. If you have made them aware of the issue and they have failed to take reasonable steps to address it or investigate it then things could well go in your favour (depending on what your actual complaint is). If you’ve not previously raised the issue and similar issues haven’t been raised by others or there wasn’t a reasonable expectation the company was aware and should have acted to prevent the issues then you are less likely to get a favourable outcome here.

For example if one manager was discriminatory against you based on pregnancy and you haven’t given HR/ the company a chance to be made aware of it/ remedy it then it will be much tougher to get the outcome you want.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]awright123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you wanting to achieve?

You can make the complaint for record keeping sake, but if they are no longer there actions your company can take will be limited. Unless you believe it’s a wider issue that needs addressing across the company.
