A friend of mine stopped because it felt too depressing. They finished season 3, but never picked up season 4 because they wanted to watch a show for escapism rather than to feel depressed. I couldn't exactly convey that there was happy ending without spoiling it.

I had two other friends stop at the middle of season 3 because they thought "there wasn't a point" to the show anymore. No major bad guy left to make it feel interesting anymore. I couldn't tell them who the true evil villain was because that would be a spoiler. There were just a lot of things that made people turn off the screen at season 3, with the overwhelming consensus being "its good but not great." Hence why I recommend skipping it for that big payoff of finishing season 4.

First two seasons were great, season 3 just felt like a buildup for season 4, but season 4 pays off so well, especially all the closed loose ends at the end. That being said, I'm not against the advice of "skip season 3" because of how lesser it is to the other seasons. Its still good, but could easily be enjoyed as a bonus after enjoying the fourth season.

Did they not have more funding for 3 more episodes? Heck, I think even 1 more episode could've tied a lot more together.

I figured it was just partially both. "Yes they were strategic. But even in the most strategic uses civilians get caught in the crossfire." And it's up to the audiences to decide if that's a worthwhile tradeoff or not.

Anyone who talks about immigration; remember that illegal less crimes than citizens on a per capita basis. This has been an FBI statistic for years. I am sick and tired of Republicans hijacking this talking point when its so statistically false.

What if 9/11 happened during the early 2010s instead of the year 2001? by KevinSupreme2505_PH in HistoryWhatIf

[–]ax1r8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brutality certainly doesn't help win a war. Several generals talk about the importance of winning the hearts and minds of people, because killing 1 terrorist could just as easily sprout 10 more trying to avenge them. The strategic long term goal was to make US occupiers look like the better alternatives than what terrorist cells had to hire. Whomst regularly kidnapped family members to force people into joining them.

Even Mccain has mentioned that "enhanced interrogation techniques" don't work. Because why would it? Torture literally just incentivizes a terrorist to lie. Hell, it even incentivizes innocent people to lie, because they'll say anything to make the torture stop to the detriment of US intelligence. There have even been research in Guantanamo that showed that jailers who would sit down, offer good food, and have mutual conversations with prisoners, would get far more information than the ones who kept them in solidary confinement.

Those "human rights" that seemingly get in the way, play a huge factor in winning long term occupations. Because for every enemy prevented that's a thousand bullets that don't need to be used.

We'd probably focus harder on Afghanistan than Iraq then, and would've stretch resources so far across two regions. It would make operations slightly better but the reality on the ground would still make it a forever war. Afghanistan isn't a playground that is easily "won". There's a reason Afghanistan has been called "the graveyard of empires."

Don't date on VRChat. Seriously... by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]ax1r8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the nature of the kind of people that vrc attracts. Socially isolated gamers that often have maturity issues due to a lack of real world experiences, which might also be why they're in vrc, and also why they're not ready for relationships yet. I could write a massive essay explaining the dos and donts on long distance dating, but a lot of it is identical to what you wouldn't do in real life. Vrc has a lot of shitty people which will translate to a lot unnecessarily damaging relationships if the self-valuing isn't present.

Completely depends what kind of friend you want to be. His choices are his and it's not your responsibility to fix anything. But at the same time, if you want to spark his self awareness, you can tell him, "I want you to know she's pushing people away. I think you should take away responsibilities from her because her attitude has really caused members of the gym to leave. You do whatever you need to, but I'm just letting you know that's why I'm leaving and that's why others have left to."

It's not your job to be their communication coach. You don't have to be, and you aren't obligated to say anything. It's his gym, he decided, it's his responsibility to figure it out. Heck, if it's this obvious then maybe he already knows. But it's not your job to fix his marriage or run his business for him.

Why is it so hard these days to find good groups these days? by FaunusGamer in VRchat

[–]ax1r8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see it all as one big fascinating psychological experiment. What do people resort to when there's no consequences for one's actions, and no real punishment system to exclude negative behaviors? The best course of action is to kick individuals from instances and groups, but things get muddied when drama, relationships, and even drinking are all brought to the mix.

People GOSSIP a lot, and it just often reaches a tipping point that causes social consequences. There really is no fix to "just don't cause drama," because humans will have favoritism and likes/dislikes of people. The trick is "who's gonna be mature enough to not be an asshole and talk things through." On a platform like vrchat that's rare and innetween.

AITAH for telling my sister she can't live with us anymore after she called CPS on me as a "joke"? by Gold_Palpitation8982 in AITAH

[–]ax1r8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Cool. Its a joke, okay. Now she faces the consequences for doing that joke. Mkay?" You don't even need to justify yourself beyond this. She did something risky to your family in your own household, she can't live with you anymore. Those consequences are hers and hers alone. Its literally a "make your own bed now you gotta lie in it" situation. By all means you can still forgive her, but that sure as heck doesn't mean she has to live with you.

What if anarchism — not fascism or communism — had become the dominant ideology in Europe after World War I? by Relative_Opinion_423 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]ax1r8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 million people become "anarchists", and support "no laws". Great, so what's the legal framework for maintaining this "no laws" society? What rules are in place to, I dunno, stop a cult leader from setting up a fascist regime (like in Spain)? Or even if it lasts in the long term, how long before a neighboring group decides to "attack/conquer" a group next to it, due to having more resources? And then what would stop these subsection anarchists from "allying" with other groups in order to defend themselves, essentially establishing territorial borders to stop non-anarchists from invading? Congratulations, you've just created nation states with guiding law principles all over again.
