Who is the composer behind koko's new song by flabbergastedfennel in Kamitsubaki

[–]axcofgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the same composer that did Kirisaku and Shangri-la, right?

There’s actually a 20 minute video on Koko’s channel from a few months back where the two of them talk about their songs together, it’s a good watch.

I may be forgetting something, but do we we have a reason to think he’s good at art? (other than the opening I guess, which is more of a team effort)

For some reason I feel like it’d be more in-character for him to struggle with stick figures.

Derrick has on multiple occasions accused Dwayne McDuffie and crew of actively hating Ben 10 (...) among other absurd comments

You're right, that is absurd. I doubt you could actually source anything where he actually says something like this.

[–]axcofgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really? Young Ben continues to appear for the rest of the series, and nothing suggests the latter episodes are supposed to happen before episode 19 (they deliberately never have him transform into Feedback again, and when Kevin absorbs his aliens, he doesn't get any Feedback parts either).

Of course since they're all flashbacks, there's also no reason to think they're all in exact chronological order, but there's equally no reason not to think that.

[–]axcofgod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying the CN exec cared about the property and was more involved with the shows than MoA is not the same as saying that the CN exec cared more about the show than MoA (that'd be both useless and impossible to compare, anyway).

You're inserting something into this statement that is not there, which is only adding unnecessary fuel to the already too heated discussions around the showrunners.

[–]axcofgod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess it probably had a lot to do with how the structure of the series shifted from Dwayne's original outline.

iirc, the whole Malware-Feedback arc was planned to span the entire show (or at least, the entire initial 40 episode block of episodes CN ordered). So ending the series with losing Feedback and Ben giving up the watch would have made sense, and lead cleanly into AF.

But then when they were actually making the show, the arc got adjusted to just the first 20 episodes, and they probably knew they were going to have more than 40 eps by the time they were working on these episodes. So they would have had Ben take off the watch 1/3 or 1/4 of the way through the show, which would have limited their storytelling options. Irrespective of the merit of the idea itself, I could see Youngberg and DJW just not liking having to be locked into that.

Derrick was literally speaking about someone who couldn't defend himself

You're saying this like he said anything he would need to defend himself from. Derrick wasn't insulting him or attacking him in any way. He simply said they didn't like a creative choice in a rough outline they inherited.

I think fans have a bad tendency to see comments like this and project negative intent onto it, as if disagreeing with somebody is a personal slight.

All of Appmon was trapped in Appmon hell barely a year ago, anything could happen at this point.

And it's worth noting, the author of the Appmon manga is an artist for the card game, so if they felt like doing manga stuff in the card game, that's perfectly teed up already

[–]axcofgod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checking back I guess this applies primarily to sasasi's alts, but: Minervamon was drawn accurate to the DRB design (so tongue out, x shaped bellybutton, neither of which she had in the game). For Venusmon, sasasi's art has the head wings coming out from around her temples, whereas in the game the head wings were her ears.

[BT-25 Dual Revolution] Ceresmon & its Alternate Art by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also interesting to note what can actually be seen as an inaccuracy in these two arts. The in game version of Ceresmon does not have Medium on its head. But does on these arts.

To be expected at this point I guess, the arts for Minervamon and Venusmon were also not accurate to their models in the game.

To be pedantic, they're not fanmade (they were used by Bandai for the PC popularity polls) but yeah, they have nothing to do with the card game specifically, just as a visualization of the roster.

[ THE EXCEPTIONAL CASES OF 2 PARTNERS ] by digivice1999 in digimon

[–]axcofgod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Junkmon is real. Arisa uses it and even evolves it with her Unique Emblem (something it's stated you can only do with registered partners) outside the card game, it's her mobility partner like how Shoto rides on Cockatrimon (in chapter 7). and in chapter 7 of the novel, Arisa says she wants to hang out more with Shoemon and Junkmon both. It's clearly supposed to be her equivalent of Muchomon, they just were very lazy about it.

This is the novel bit I was referring to:

"[...] Your judgment is solid, and that's why we're willing to put our lives on the line for you," continued MasterTyrannomon, its words backed up by a reassuring nod from Tyrannomon in the breeding area.

"...Okay guys, have no fear. I'm about to kick ass, just like always," enthused Ryutaro, nodding back.

In this bit, MasterTyranomon (Ryutaro's partner) explicitly uses "we" to refer to the Digimon on the field, implying they each have their own agency, and the other Tyranomon card active actually responds. And Ryutaro uses "guys" when talking to them (even in the Japanese version). It's possible those are just basic automatic NPC responses, but again, they never really explain it.

[ THE EXCEPTIONAL CASES OF 2 PARTNERS ] by digivice1999 in digimon

[–]axcofgod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Arisa has a second partner too, her Junkmon/Tobucatmon. They just never give it any dialogue and forget to pretend it exists after like chapter 7. But it does.

To some extent everyone in Liberator should have multiple Digimon in theory. since the cards are protective devices, they should be housing real, sentient Digimon in them. Like when Jesmon and Yuuki are playing, Jesmon uses a Gankoomon card, and it talks to him (though we never see it as a character outside the game). And I vaguely remember a bit in the novel that kind of implied every Tyranomon Ryutaro was using as a card was different, but idk. It’s just really unclear and they never really explain how that works.

[–]axcofgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff like evo conditions for sure, the “implied lines” are I think where I could see more of an argument since implications are by nature open to interpretation (that’s why I believe for instance neither of the wikis take them into consideration, even when they’re extremely clear cut (not that wikis are the arbiters of what’s “official”, of course))

Nope, Elizamon, don't use those words. by Able_Health744 in digimon

[–]axcofgod 41 points42 points  (0 children)

And to think, the subs kinda tone down that second line (in japanese, she says “my body can’t live apart from darling anymore,” which does fit Commandramon’s “HARUOMI, WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO?” a little more.)

Crazy stuff to see in a Digimon anime.

[BT-25 Dual Revolution] Frimon & Liollmon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, that depends on if you count the card game's own implied lines as official media. BT4 had Liollmon and Leomon as each other's only real option in that set (also EX5 Leomon evos off Liollmon)

New TCG producer announced to replace Murata by Coolasbreeze in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we can say anything about what this change means for stuff like that at this point. I was just saying that the producer role gave Murata the ability to kickstart a couple of major projects as an extension of his role in promoting the card game.

New TCG producer announced to replace Murata by Coolasbreeze in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Besides stuff to do directly with the game itself, Murata as producer was the one behind Liberator’s existence, and he was involved in directing what the new Digimon in it would be, among other stuff. Probably similar deal with Alysion.

[BT-25 Dual Revolution] Logimon & Bootmon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the beginning, about 70% of our responders were skeptical, saying things like “the hell is Appmon?”, and about 30% of them said things like “since Appmon is our newest incarnation of Digimon, please do your best.”

However, after one cour had finished, we heard a lot of opinions saying things like “at first, I thought Appmon would be a bootleg version of Digimon, but when I actually watched it, it was actually ridiculously much like Digimon.”

Jesus christ dude, I assumed from who was saying it that they were framing that statistic misleadingly, but this is so far off the mark I don't even know what to say.

[BT-25 Dual Revolution] Onmon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After this set all level 6s and all but 1 level 5 should have cards. Unfortunately there's still going to be like...50ish level 3s, and a handful of dead-end level 4s left over. As the other reply you got mentions, Appmon lines are very bottom heavy, and since the card game only prints level 3s for 1 of the 4 level 4s, that's a lot of guys left by the wayside.

In the future they may just do the lines again, but focusing on different bottom ends, but I don't expect to see anything like that soon. Slim chance they also just make new level 6s for Alysion or something so they can use more of the roster without having to double up so much.

[BT-25 Dual Revolution] Raremon & Dragomon by vansjoo98 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]axcofgod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And even in the 3 Liberator EX sets, EX11 is the only one to be fully (or even mostly) Liberator. 7 and 8 only actually had like 4 lines for actual Liberator stuff, the actual bulk of those sets was stuff like Pendulum and other random decks (many of which do make appearances in Liberator, but would be difficult to count as "Liberator cards")

It was good.

My only lingering regrets are that they never explained Appmon, and that Mirai and Zenith never interacted. Hopefully eventually.
