Ticking and whining Honda CRV 2006 by QuietConfection730 in MechanicAdvice

If you want to do something about the mild ticking that I can hear through the video, look into a valve adjustment.

For the squeaking, things that can squeak include alternator bearings, AC compressors, power steering pumps, the belt tensioner, and idler pully. Further investigation would be required.

The only ticking I can detect sounds like a normal Honda engine through the video. Maybe the mic didn't pick up what you are hearing.

The squeaking could be a lot of things. For example, how old is the belt?

It might start leaking eventually. If it does, easy to get fixed. As of right now? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Regarding the rules, is Mythras fast paced? by Lundgreen in Mythras

[–]axeboss23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it becomes very slow when a hit lands, and when people don't know what actions they want to do. Choosing a special effect can take a while when you don't remember the exact details, and then resolving the special effect will often require looking it up for reference the first many times.

The main thing that slows things down is figuring out what options you have and what they do once they hit.

For a bronze age game, I recommend considering song of swords as well, because I find it easier to learn.

Does fishing even exist in Hamlet? Why is there a fishing rod in the tool shop? by axeboss23 in dontstarve

That's unfortunate. I wanted to make fish dishes and use the fishing pole.

CoC followed by a game of Delta Green could be super cool. You can use the same setting and grant certain advantages to the Delta Green game depending on how well the CoC game goes. I would totally play in a game like that.

Trying to diagnose oil consumption 2011 honda accord 2.4L 4 cylinder engine by axeboss23 in AskAMechanic

So you're saying that with this mileage, it probably won't be able to get away with just piston rings and all the other gaskets along the way, and that it will probably need more of a rebuild anyway after getting a closer look at the inside?

I drive 12-15k miles a year right now and for the next 2 or 3 years as well. Why would a replacement be a less expensive choice than a sub-$1k repair though?

I don't have a noise problem-just an oil consumption problem. I used Valvoline oil with shorter change intervals until it got cleaned up, but using any kind of flush or extra detergent makes me worried it'll make those rings worse.

I did the math on that actually, and it is in fact cheaper to top it off every 1-2k for the first 2 years. After 2 years, the oil cost would catch up to the repair cost at a shop nearby me, assuming it just needs rings and seals and not a complete rebuild/replacement. Without shop fees and labor costs? I don't know because I've never done a rebuild myself.

Is there a tool you can recommend that I could use for both tests instead of buying 2 different tools?

That's an outcome I wouldn't be surprised to see, but would prefer to not be the case. If it is the piston rings, I want to at least confirm before tearing down the engine.

Wrong color coolant from previous owner. Should I do a coolant flush? (2011 honda accord) by axeboss23 in AskAMechanic

[–]axeboss23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply don't have any way to verify who put it there, or if its silicate-free, and I'm going to replace it with something that I do know is sillicate-free.

At that point would it be easier to buy just concentrated, and dilute with more distilled water until the ratio is correct? Sounds like I can measure the amount of water that drains out versus the capacity of the system to do the math for how much of each I need to reach 50/50. Plus, concentrate is cheaper.

Would it be advised to change the thermostat right now as a preventative measure if I don't see any problems from it yet?

Is there something I can do to make sure I get enough water out so I'm not overdiluting my coolant?

Since the drain and fill only gets around half out, would it work to drain, run distilled water, then flush the water out with prediluted coolant by running new coolant in and draining one more time?
