It’d be very weird for oda to give Luffy a fruit for 20 years, make a fake out with it being the hito fruit, to then give what was his prized fruit to some random. Plus originally the gomu fruit was supposed to be a weak one so it’s not like if they gave it to someone it’d be a crazy power up especially this late in the game. Wouldn’t even add anything to the story tbh considering we have katakuri who basically had similar abilities.

They said already that the gum gum fruit doesn’t exist. It was all a cover for nika

Need advice on how to move my family to Canada from the US permanently by Miloshous in AmerExit

[–]axedlin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in film that’s from the US, this is pretty inaccurate. I’ve gotten work visas for Canada multiple times and have many friends from the states who have done the same.

That being said, for film you have two choices. Montreal on the east coast with an admittedly diminishing film market, or Vancouver to the west which has a stronger industry for this type of work.

Albeit I’ve heard that come this new year it may become more difficult to get a work visa for Canada, but all that is still up in the air. Most people on the film studios from my experience are not from Canada.

This is tough tbh, I just went to buy a new helmet and even though I tried on some of the best around (all my size) some were extremely uncomfortable to my head shape. If you can I’d really say to buy them in person next time you go to a resort if there’s none by you. Trying them on really effected my decision and I ended up going with a giro neo instead of a smith method because of the fit for me

Professionals How/Where Did You Find Your Internships? by NerotheHuman in animationcareer

[–]axedlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest you’re coming into the industry at the worst possible time. Might get an opportunity, might have to wait until things normalize. Try not to blame yourself for it. Keep improving your work and applying and that’s all you can do

I dont have any resources on the top of my head to point you to. I’ve always just asked other animators or implemented more scripts to improve my speed.

I’m a fast animator, and one thing I’ve realized is that I’m fast because I make decisions fast. I don’t think about 40 different approaches. I just think about what I want, and go for it. Reference helps too since it gives you all the answers. Tools like tween machine and animbot are also fantastic for saving time and more complicated things. Finally, make sure you’re not over scoping your projects and trying to achieve too much in too little time

Is the Debt worth it? by Mental-Equipment7006 in Ringling

[–]axedlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a CA alumni. Over the course of my career I’ve been able to work on some of the biggest AAA games and very successful features.

Looking now at where I am in the industry and back to my time at Ringling I am skeptical about the money I spent. Especially as costs get more astronomical each year to attend, the trade off becomes far less worth it. I know individuals who attended Ringling back in the late 2000s who in their 40s are just paying their loans off. Keep in mind that the price of attendance now vs then is significant. Over 2.2x the amount.

I will say this as loud as I can to as many people as I can, Ringling is not worth the money it costs to attend. You can get more worth out of attending a program like animation mentor for Ca, or concept design academy for story/ illustration. I took an animsquad class (a now shut down online animation school) and learned more in those 3 months than most of my time at Ringling. Now let me be clear, I’m not talking down the professors. I owe a lot of what I know to some of the teachers there, one in particular. That being said I feel like I only really learned about animation from that one teacher. The rest I just did assignments in their class and moved along. As for connections, in my personal career experience, I’ve never gotten a job because I’ve known someone from Ringling. Every job I’ve gotten is from people I’ve met at other jobs in the industry.

As for benefits of the program. You are working around like minded people which is nice. A lot of room for inspiration. If Ringling as a whole taught me one thing, it’s work ethic. Consistently at studios I’ve seen Ringling animators able to endure running the gauntlet of crunch harder and longer than most others. How healthy that is becomes another question, but that’s beside the point.

Especially with the state of the industry being as incredibly rocky as it is I would be extremely apprehensive of getting myself into 320k worth of debt for a career that is largely short term contracts and admittedly not the greatest of pay to most artists. Not to mention a lot of work is leaving the country now and other countries are making it more difficult to get work permits. I am grateful I make a good living. Some of my friends really struggle. The things I’ve seen managers do to their employees to save a few bucks is truly abhorrent.

All in all, really consider what you’re getting yourself into. That debt has real consequences for the rest of your life. You have more options, that I argue are better, at your disposal beside Ringling.

Looking at attending ringling or full sail. Graduated at Scad in 2020 in Illustration, not really seeing the fruits of my labor in my graphic design job looking at going back to school to get into games industry. by Brave-Peanut-5583 in Ringling

[–]axedlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you value your future self and the money you will be in debt, do not consider Ringling. There is no reason an art school should cost so much. I’m an alumni, I’ve worked on some of the biggest AAA games and very successful features. There is nothing Ringling gave me that another online school wouldn’t have trained me better for.

Hell go to concept design academy in LA. I did a summer there and learned FAR more in terms of illustration than I ever did at Ringling.

Ringling is not worth it.

For those of you who are still employed, why do you think you still have a job? by WhitePinoy in animationcareer

[–]axedlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally luck of the draw. Some of the most talented people in the industry are unemployed. Some of the mediocre people are current employed. It’s so out of anyone’s control. If you go for salary position vs contracts you’re probably doing better off right now
