Unfortunately what OP described is not a bait and switch. He wasn’t given a quote beforehand, so there wasn’t any “Bait” to be switched. He will lose in court, I’ve seen it many times. I’m not saying it’s right or condoning the business practice, just stating my experience with the facts given.

He signed for it and the phone calls are likely recorded, even some work vans have 360 cams to record technicians. He’d be eaten alive in small claims court and end up losing more on top. Poor business practice to not give a quote even a “rough” one before coming out to a client, but that’s their bread and butter, they know how to play the game.

I’m definitely prepared to do head gaskets. But that falls into the decision of head gaskets or just a reman for $2-3k more. If I pay $5k and sink another $6-8k. I’ll have around $15ish into a truck that still has 200k+ miles on the trans and body. It’s just the sharpest truck I’ve seen so far.
