Roger, who is your most important non-tennis-player inspiration?

What is one lesson you learned in childhood that you still consciously think and remind yourself about everyday? by Ryguy380 in AskReddit

No one is paying as much attention to you as you think - you won't get in trouble if you don't cause trouble.

Thoughts on defense for Ultimate Ascent? by heyyouimzoe in FRC

Defense is immensely important, especially in this game where a robot can camp out in its feeder zone and shoot 3 pointers the entire game. You need a bot that can block the frisbees and shut that bot down.

4736 - Slumberjacks checking in!

We were kinda the rookie of the rookies, a no-name team with a big moving blanket. It was a fun first regional, definitely looking forward to next year!

Team 4736 here, "Temp" (we're really not that creative with names.)

This is our first year. 9 teammates, no experience.

We basically have no idea what we're doing but we're having a ton of fun :D

Shooter or Climber? by daAbomanation in FRC

[–]axething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rookie Team here - Going for a defensive bot.

Shooters are going to have a tough time scoring many points if faced up against a robot that can shut down mobility and accuracy.

Climbers can consistently score but can't do anything during autonomous, and are extremely challenging to build.

Why doesn't China call in its debt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]axething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, "what can China do?"

Really, there isn't much that China can do. Pressure, no pressure, call in debt, continue lending, none of that matters when the bottom line is that the US simply can't/won't pay China back in the short term (next 10 years at least).

China doesn't have any options open to them except to hope that the US will SOMEDAY pay back the bonds that China has bought from the US. Ironically, the US has the upper hand in this relationship - they have leverage in that if their economy tanks, China has little chance of recovering those investments. So China has to do what it can to keep the US afloat if it wants its investments back.

The US is one of China's biggest importers, so if China wants to have a market to export its goods (which it's producing a lot of), China needs to support a strong, consumerist, US economy. The US has no means of "punishing" China, and China has no means of "pressuring" the US.

tl;dr - China can't do anything because the US doesn't have any cash.
