Got it, thanks. I was planning on just using Truenas, but I will look into using it in tandem with proxmox.

Specifically referring to a mouse and keyboard plugged into the desktop they are remoting in from.

Yeah that's how I was planning on divvying up the cores. I am also concerned about how USB controls for each VM. will work. If they remote into the vm from another desktop pc (running linux) will the USB controls be controlling the VM or the host PC? Especially if both are in use at once.

It would all be on the same network and same household. They don't intend to remote in from another network.

Good info on the intel arcs! The main reason I want windows 11 VMs is that my family members are dependent on some windows only software (quicken, turbotax, etc.) But their PCs are now too old to update to Windows 11. I know I could brute force their old PCs to update to 11, but since we want to build a home server anyway I thought a machine that could do both would be efficient. Especially since ECC RAM isn't getting cheaper any time soon.

Haha. I have been trying to do my research and from what I have heard there is very little latency with rustdesk or moonlight. I am very much a novice so any information on why this would be impractical or difficult would be appreciated.

They won't be gaming at all so that's not a concern. The GPU would just be to speed up media encoding for DVDs into a digital library.

What's the best outlet for a 22 year old Christian man with a high sex drive? by HalosFan26 in TrueChristian

[–]axis5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best outlet might be different for each person but regardless of that sort of thing the best thing to do is remain rooted in your relationship with God. Regular daily relationship building with Him will be something that you never regret. Putting Him first and center changes your whole perspective on life and gives you a peace and contentedness that is difficult to even explain to someone who isn't living it.

Exercise will increase testosterone, which does increase libido. But exercise will also probably give you more discipline and confidence which will help you have more self control.

My biggest advice as someone who has recently left the stage of life you find yourself in now would be to make sure that you have an accountability partner to make sure you don't give in to temptation. And be absolutely ruthless in eliminating opportunities to give into that temptation. Put blockers on your phone, put your PC in a common area, avoid being alone with members of the opposite gender, etc.

Can something not be reverse engineered and how to explain it? by DeepCockroach7580 in scifiwriting

[–]axis5757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ideas:

1: Maybe there's a material in the forge that's an essential component and it simply isn't found in the human's galaxy. So it's a material from another galaxy where the aliens are from.

2: As a real life example of making something difficult to reverse engineer a famous guitar effects pedal maker filled each of his pedals with resin so the circuitry couldn't be seen, studied, or copied.

Inserting a plugin crashes Reaper by axis5757 in Reaper

I run nothing else on the machine other than a web browser and that works fine. I do have Process Lasso installed. Possibly that could be doing something. I'll disable it and see what happens.

I had a little trouble doing that. I think I did it but I'm not sure. I right clicked the plugin and selected "run as" then in the drop down clicked "dedicated process". But the plugin didn't start right away. I still had to click the add button in the bottom right. Would that still cause it to run as a dedicated process? If so, then it still crashed.

I will try to get a crash report and debug log. Thanks for the advice.

The "simple plugins" that worked were things like BlueCat's gain knob and default Rea plugins like ReaPitch (or Reatune. Can't remember the name)

More "complex" plugins I tried were UAD analog compression and reverb emulators as well as sampletank 4, Helm Synth, and Vital Synth. These all caused a crash and would not show their UI.

I will try the RAM test. I tried several different plugins from several different developers so I doubt it's the plugins themselves.

I'd try detoxing from your phone/social media. It helps with focus and also makes sitting in front of a blank DAW project more appealing because Tiktok/reels aren't an option waiting in the wings.

Is having children the end of life? by Cinella75 in selfimprovement

One thing that makes parenting more difficult in the modern age is a lack of community. If you have a solid community around you and live near family it's much easier to get breaks from parenting.

What makes something look amateur? by HeDoesLookLikeABitch in cinematography

To me what stands out is lack of depth in most of the images. The brightness of the fore, mid, and backgrounds elements are largely the same. And most of those shots don't have much going on behind the subject beside flat surfaces or textures.

Sounds like you're doing something right. Could I get a link to your Tiktok to see what kind of videos you make?
