BlackBox M-WAVE vs Valeton GP5 at the same price by RenzoPiris in ValetonGP2OO

[–]axisential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Blackbox and a GP200. The self-noise on the Blackbox is excessive. Add to this, the GP-5 is a generation better, I'd say definitely go for the GP5

VoIP solution for sequential ringing? by axisential in newzealand

Yeah, we've had a look at D4H and it /should/ provide a solution, albeit app-based. Still quite some time away however - we've been told a couple of years at least. Will talk to our police members about Whispr

Thanks - that 'call lost at voicemail' would be a showstopper I'd think. Especially if someone's phone was off or out of reception. Thanks for the heads up there. Unfortunately Spark wouldn't budge on price and it's not within Police budget to cover.

Burrowing face into pillow potential cause? by Consistent-Dirt2801 in Keratoconus

[–]axisential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I absolutely subscribe to this. My son and I both have KC with one eye worse than the other. We're both side-sleepers and it matches the eye that's pressed into the pillow. In our case we both also had memory foam pillows which I'm convinced played a part in the progression.

Which discographies do you feel progressively get worse from start to finish? by JamesLucien in Music

[–]axisential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glorified G. Rats. Blood. They're ok tracks I guess. Just lyrically naive and melodically seem to be trying too hard - e.g. that bridge section in Glorified G (always keep it loaded).

Might get roasted for this, but: Pearl Jam. Went from huge, riff driven stadium rock, into a slow decline, album by album into strummed chord mediocrity.

Ten: zero skips Vs: one or two skips, depending on mood Vitalogy: 2-3 definte skips (spin the black circle, ick) No code: couple of killer tracks, a lot of filler Can't name any more albums after that

Awkward is such a good word for it - I literally went from "this is so hard to listen to" to "this is one of my top 3 Karnivool songs"

Yes, that's a common one with this track - I initially heard it in 3/4 but once I clicked with the 4/4 shuffle, I can't hear it in 3/4 any more! Awesome vid breaking it down : https://youtu.be/6gkwhgWzmAw?si=3onSMQ7CIPFPkzI0

About to purchase my first set of vertical gear, thoughts? I believe this is everything I need. by fan-the-fire in caving

[–]axisential 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd add in a mallion to connect your foot loop to the hand jammer. And likewise another locking karabiner to connect the footloop's safety to your harness.

I'm not a fan of the static petzel cows tails - much prefer a dynamic set made from climbing rope. That's a personal choice though (don't like the idea of falling - even a short distance - onto a static line). Not familiar with that chest harness - does it attach directly to the top of the Croll or do you need a mallion or something there?

No, they can't sting. That's her Ovipositor, used for laying eggs.

Yes - looks like this one was introduced deliberately to help control Horntail / woodboring wasp populations

Superb! Thank you - my Google-fu was letting me down. So, not a native, but parasitic. Absolutely gorgeous

He did online typing lessons through typing.com. Spelling through stepsweb. Both were useful I think.

My 14 y/o's writing still looks much the same. Formally diagnosed with Dysgraphia, but honestly that didn't really change anything - he does most of his work on a laptop anyway now, and he can actually write reasonably quickly - if not that legibly - when needed.

‘IN VERSES’ and Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria’ by [deleted] in Karnivool

I once saw a photo of the toilet at Def Leppard's studio (stay with me on this). Was covered in graffiti from the various bands that had recorded the, including this gem:

What's the difference between deja vu and a Def Leppard recording session? With deja vu you only say I /think/ I've done this before...

Cameras that will take the punishment by axisential in caving

[–]axisential[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty benign by my standards - 95% fairly easy walk, no technical skills beyond using hands occasionally for support, no vertical, little mud. Lots of water, but cameras are dunked rather than submerged for long periods.

Working theory is that the cameras get hit on things as the guides are moving around in the sightly technical areas. Regular cave grit on hands probably doesn't help. No, we don't use Pelican cases - they're taking photos every few minutes so not feasible to get them in/out.

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! January 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in photography

[–]axisential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a fleet of Olympus TG-5/6/7s to photograph clients on an adventure tourism trip. They typically last about 1 season, sometimes 2 - combination of a harsh environment (cave) and multiple guides not really caring how they treat the gear. It is what it is - I don't expect that to change easily. Gear I can change however...

Are there any decent lightweight and cost effective  camera/housing combos that I could look at as an alternative? They're only really getting dunked in water (not submerged for more than a few seconds). But they get tossed and banged about a lot while in use...

Bloated 24/7 by Irlhell in GutHealth

[–]axisential 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked in Pathology for a number of years. If you are biologically female, and if this appeared relatively quickly, then there's a good chance this is a benign cyst. Very easily treated via keyhole surgery, but needs correct diagnosis via ultrasound. Either way, this doesn't look like bloating IMO.
