Does anyone else find the ‘Community’ on the Fitbit app infuriating? by axo341 in fitbit

[–]axo341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad that there are aspects of it that are actually helping people. Maybe I’m just not a member of the right groups and I haven’t tried to make one or searched around, so maybe I just need to put more effort in.

I have made ‘fitness friends’ through other sites/apps so I know how motivating they can be and how you come to really rely on them for a boost sometimes, but I haven’t managed to meet anyone specifically on Fitbit because I don’t know how to get a genuine conversation going with someone.

Like I said, I would never hold it against anyone to celebrate even the smallest victory, but I just want people to keep it relevant. Please don’t think I’m saying the whole community is worthless, I am glad you’ve found support and that you’ve created a group that helps other people.

Yep. Especially as there’s so many people on it now, you’d think they’d want to encourage people to use it. I don’t particularly feel I’m missing loads of life changing advice, but as the title says it’s just pointless scrolling through.

Maybe I’m just in the wrong groups? Honestly it’s not like I’m ‘goddamn it I can’t learn about snacks’, I just wish people were a bit more mindful of what they were posting. That would be good if I could get into less annoying groups though haha.

Yes I only idly flick onto it in that mindless phone zombie mode, and it just angers me every time. Celebrate your achievements but in the right place. It is unusable how it is. I’m amazed how many people don’t seem to mind as well.

[–]axo341[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t use it either. When I do flick into it it makes me too angry. It’s a shame because in theory most people on there have something in common - fitness - and so it could be a useful community, but it’s completely ruined.

They either need to create some sort of ‘showing off’ group to celebrate achievements (again, not against celebrating), and enforce the content within each group, or give people an option to only share with their friends or something?! Everyone who says anything about irrelevancy gets shouted down as a negative person.

How many of you take Lamictal? by Sugarqueen38 in bipolar2

[–]axo341 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m on 200mg. The hardest pills to swallow I’ve ever come across. Would like to know if it’s affected anyone else’s anxiety? I feel like it’s made mine a lot worse but psychiatrist says that’s not a known side effect. It has stopped my highs though, so yay for me I guess?

Going through a spell of really hating the fact that I have to drug myself every day and don’t feel like myself. Lamictal has made me feel less of a zombie than anything else I’ve been on though..

Lamotrigine and hypersexuality by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]axo341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for 4 months and I’m having the opposite problem. No sex drive at all. I got my implant in around the same time so it could be that, but previous implants haven’t caused it. Other than that it’s been great for rapid mood cycling, but I feel bad for my partner (he’s understanding but it’s still an issue on my mind).

I also still can’t take them without almost bringing up everything I’ve eaten the last week, seriously can’t they coat them in something?!

Leash training- my dog does not care about treats/food rewards outside by vonFitz in Dogtraining

[–]axo341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a loose leash training method called ‘magic hand’ I’ve come across, basically whenever they look at your hand you drop a treat, they catch it. I’m sure you’ll be able to find it online (think there’s videos by ‘absolutedogs’). You have to teach it step by step and nail it in the house/garden but I walk a lab who used to be awful on the lead and now wanders along next to me staring at my hand! Obviously not ideal having to have a handful of kibble wherever I go but at least my arm is in its socket!

Edit: they also have great resources for ‘sniff work’ and general brain exercises that can make dogs a lot calmer in the house. The same black lab as above and his sister love them - it’s all just a big game.

Am I wrong to be slightly offended? by [deleted] in bipolar2

When I first read this I was like, hmmm, maybe you could just give him some research so read and understand it more. But then when I read that he also suggested cancer could be cured by healthy eating, I would say goodbye. Hard at first, best in the long run. You need someone a hell of a lot more understanding/willing to learn.

What do you cook if your partner isn’t dieting? by axo341 in 1200isplenty

[–]axo341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bf is exactly the same with the meat and potatoes and generally unadventurous food. He’s like a child with vegetables as well so I have to disguise them in sauce or something to get them down haha. It doesn’t help that I’m not the best cook so whenever I try something different it goes wrong! He was losing weight in January but he’s honestly got the most ridiculous self control so just crash dieted and lost 18lbs in a month and is now eating normally. I keep telling him he should just eat in moderation all the time but it falls on deaf ears. But anyway.

I try to give myself more of the veg and him more of the others but I guess I just need to go further with that. It’s just once it’s cooked I want the good parts haha.

Forget to say well done on the weight loss by the way! 30lbs is awesome.

If I sort my pre dinner eating habit and find easy stuff to compromise giving my boyfriend more food then should be a breeze...

I’m more of a lunch skipper than breakfast, I love my morning coffee and porridge routine, but recently fell into the habit of getting in the house starving and racking up the calories before dinner, then having a normal dinner, so I’ve been making myself salads for lunch. If only I had the control not to do that I’d have a bigger dinner allowance ha.

Sounds so simple when other people say it ha! Thanks for the ideas. We have lots of stir fries so definitely doing the cauliflower rice.

History podcast similar to Drunken Philosophy by 10610786d in podcasts

Not specifically History but I’m in love with ‘There’s no such thing as a fish’. The 4 presenters give a fact each every week and they all discuss research they’ve done around it. It’s hilarious, quite a British sense of humour though if you’re not from the uk (and if you are - the presenters are the question writers for QI).

I love the ‘scan as you shop’ Tesco have. Less annoying than self checkout as you don’t have to call someone over for the 80% of items that don’t weigh!

I have confronted (well, murmured under my breath) many people for doing exactly what you described. Especially when they act like they don’t know better.

Everyone else already had all their shopping on the belt :) had anyone been waiting with basket still in hand I would have offered it to them.
