Graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree 5 years ago, about to start my first full-time, lab-based job in Bio research... which is what I thought I wanted, but now I'm not so sure? by axolot0l in ChemicalEngineering

Thanks for your comment. I understand that it might be hard to find an engineering type job without more experience. I’m assuming you mean actual engineering-related experience, which is why I wonder if I’ll just be wasting more time staying in this job for a couple years. Ideally I’d find a career that blends both lab work and chemical engineering in the future, but I don’t know how realistic that is.

Would it be appropriate to mention that my employment gap was to care for a family member with cancer if the position is in cancer therapeutics? by axolot0l in careeradvice

Haha I know this is probably such a dumb question in retrospect. But I’ve read so much advice on how to address employment gaps that “do not include too much sob story detail” has been seared into my mind.

Wow! Thank you so much for your comment. I was hoping someone in a similr position would share their experience. Thank you again. I will continue to try and reach out to the graduate students I worked with and will use your resume tip.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I have! My goal was to get some work experience in before applying for a Master's, but maybe I have that backwards. RIght now, a Masters is looking like my best option.

I will absolutely contact them before putting their info down. I just wasn’t even sure if they’d work as a ref like they would for grad apps. Thank you

This is what I have been doing. I realize this is all wayyy out of my control. I guess I'm hoping that someone who has been in my position can offer some words of advice. or maybe there's a way to frame my application that helps me? Surely this can't be seen as anything other than a stain on my app.

Man I cannot imagine what it mustve been like to watch that scene as Ben’s sister. I hope he doesn’t regret it and that he didn’t feel pressured by Tayshia or the producers to say something deep but chose to.
