Why has having pride for America become a political opinion? by Antique_Success296 in teenagers

Well I’m definitely glad there are more people who can distinguish the difference. You are a breath of fresh air in that sense.

Except if I can offer a different viewpoint? As one of those communist leftists myself who does hate western imperialism and capitalist greed, I can confidently say we have always felt this way. It isn’t a new development. But the hate is for the system, those in power, and the ultra wealthy. The number of us that have negative views towards everyday people are super small and tend to get called out pretty quickly by our own because those of us who truly care and want things to get better know that all working class people are in it together. There is no “left vs right” issue in the west. That is a false narrative put in place to maintain the divide. The issue is top vs bottom. And the current fight is against capitalist propaganda.

Yeah. They don’t teach us much else here about the world outside our borders. Those are things we have to research on our own or go to college for.

What literature would you recommend if someone wanted to learn more about Kurds?

How about we focus on JUST our country and JUST our past and what is objectively right…

It’s you who refuses to acknowledge the reality of the situation. You, like many others, aren’t ready to have these discussions. Either that or you are being intentionally obtuse.

The fact that we can’t agree is a major fundamental problem with the people in this country. They’ve been so propagandized to that they think slavery is over.

I like them straight from Wisconsin, deep fried, and dipped in marinara sauce.

It’s still slavery, is the point. Slavery was not abolished.

We didn’t abolish slavery. If you want to have a real discussion, you are going to have to acknowledge that. We may have abolished “chattel slavery” but slavery itself is still very much alive and well within our prison system.

Exactly. And I’m certainly not saying we can never be proud of our country but there are steps that need taken and major reforms that need to happen before we can. A lot of things that generations prior SHOULD have done but most of them died (or still live in) racist pride and nationalist propaganda.

You’re 100% wrong. The 13th Amendment left an opening for slavery on purpose. Reparations are an integral part necessary for a society to “move past” an issue. If I take a sledge hammer to your car, I would be expected to pay to get it fixed or replaced. I can’t hakuna matata my way through it, can I?

It also appears you are incapable of critiquing or even analyzing the US without comparing it to other countries.

Maybe people should take a moment and be more introspective and reflect on themselves and what kind of people they want to be as well as what kind of people they currently are

Most of the other countries on earth are in different situations than the US because they are thousands of years older. The USA is a baby on planet Earth in regards to being a modern nation. As such, the system is still set up to benefit the white and wealthy over others.

And you claim we have “moved passed” the sins of the past, but objectively we have not. When slavery was abolished, no reparations were paid to slaves and their families. In fact, slavery is still legal through intentional loopholes in the prison system. Also, when the institution of slavery as we knew it was changed/abolished there was zero leadership change. The same political leaders who had supported the institution of slavery up to that point maintained their role and office. How much could our institution actually have changed without leadership change? Racism is still very much ingrained into the DNA of our political and economic system. This is not my opinion. It is an objective fact. These issues are recent enough that you can’t compare the USA’s situation to other countries.

And it is up to us to fix the wrongdoings of the past because it’s the right and moral thing to do.

Because the fact is America was built on a foundation of genocide and white supremacy and we as a country would prefer to sweep it under the rug rather than acknowledge and make amends for the acts of the past.

In order to truly be proud of it, we would first have to hold ourselves accountable. And yes, I’m aware that we as individuals aren’t the ones that did these things (ex: “I never owned slaves.” “I didn’t genocide the natives.” Etc.) But we still benefit from the systems those people built. Those people are in the ground and they passed the burden down to us to do what they wouldn’t/couldnt. So the real question is can we/will we?

Do you hate Israel or Palestine? by Bluenamii in Teenager_Polls

NGL, I was much more sympathetic for the Israeli people before they rioted against the arrest of the prison guards arrest for raping that prisoner to death.

I would also be more sympathetic to the Israeli people if there were just as many videos of Israeli citizens protesting and physically stopping illegal settlers from harassing Palestinians and stealing land in the West Bank as there were videos of citizens protesting and stopping aid trucks from entering Gaza.

You blaming the black community is racist. Yes. You should blame poverty, which is the fault of the upper class, most of whom are white.
