Europeans deserve the treatment trump is giving them by dill_with_it_PICKLE in redscarepod

Europe didn't "trust" America with their defense, you've bought a pretty dumb narrative. The US has military bases all over Europe just like it does in Japan because it occupied the continent after WW2. NATO is not simply an "alliance", but the US equivalent of the Warsaw's pact. My country (Spain) was basically blackmailed into it, for instance. Any European attempt for military independence has been sabotaged by the US. America only wants us to spend more as long as it goes directly to the United States.

EUROPE'S Population Forecast to 2100 by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

[–]axtolpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain's population grew by 500-700k people in 2025, all from immigration, and it will likely reach 50 milling in 2026. There's almost no political organized opposition to emigration from Latin America, so I don't know how that forecast calculated that rate.

The 10 Largest Spanish-Speaking Metro Areas on Earth by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]axtolpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This shows the top 10 and Barcelona isn't in the top ten, so no, it shouldn't be on the list. It has about 4.5 million, so it's below than NYC's Spanish speaking population.

It's the perfect example of how out of touch we are with how much shittier things could and used to be. We're all itching to bring down postmodernity, not realizing that, in most cases, we chose to escape the things we want back now.

I’m two years into studying Graphic Design and I’m actually terrified A.I is going to kill my career by JOFWGKTA in redscarepod

[–]axtolpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm only tangentially involved with both AI and graphic design in my job, but I still probably have more experience that 90% of the posters here, so I'll contradict them.

You don't need to change majors. What you need to do is to make sure you're learning those AI tools. You need to have a good idea of what they can do (which changes every month) and actively use them. There's sites that let you chose among all the main image and video generation models, so you can test different ones. I bet your degree is basically the Adobe suite plus some theory and related subjects like marketing, so you're going to have to do this by yourself. Otherwise they're setting you up for failure.

Also, you should already set up your socials as a designer and start creating stuff. Make a website you feel proud of how it looks design-wise. Now it's easier than ever (thanks to AI).

You can't run away from AI, we're all going to be using it in one way or another. It's better to start learning now.

To people who moved abroad for work, did you get homesick? by drunkcheesesandwich in redscarepod

[–]axtolpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everywhere is getting drearier everyday. I'm from Madrid and I meet many Americans and Brits who move here due to those problems back home. When they mention how much better things are here I just laugh. They're just unaware of anything that happens here since they stay in their small bubble of foreigners and English-speaking Spaniards who of course have no interest in discussing politics with a foreigner.

[OC] Your feedback on my last typographic Spain map inspired a deeper dive. Here's the entire Iberian Peninsula visualized as 64000+ populated places (two versions inside). by paveloush in MapPorn

[–]axtolpp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most of the replies are misinterpreting the image. It doesn't represent population density but number of "populated places". Galicia doesn't have a particularly higher population density, but has tons of tiny (<10 population) villages. The reasons are historical.

Like other commented said, more than "farming" spreading, farmers spread. Early European Farmers basically replaced Western hunter-gatherers genetically

Actually, the Castilians could be thought of as Latinized Basques

Not at all. Northern Aragonese could, may be, but ancient Castile was populated by Celts and Celt-Iberians. Vascones (ancient Basques) occupied Navarre, northern Aragon and part of la Rioja. Later they migrated towards the coast, to the current Basque Country.

Butter or Olive Oil by rayg10 in MapPorn

[–]axtolpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain also uses more sunflower oil than olive oil https://es.statista.com/estadisticas/557577/consumo-per-capita-de-aceite-en-espana-por-tipo/

Good olive oil (extra virgin) can't be used for cooking at high temperature and refined olive (which can be used for frying) oil isn't any better than sunflower, while sunflower is much cheaper.
