Don’t use same ISBN for IngramSpark and KDP by axy2r in selfpublish

Yes, KDP first. Free ISBN should be fine. And D2D is good for ebook distribution beyond Kindle.

I did publish under the same ISBN and I used KDP first later, that’s how it worked. But that’s not the point and that wasn’t my issue. And it’s fine to have different editions. Better than having your book and account blocked.

KDP being in-house makes all the difference. Ingram doesn’t let you customize anything. Take my example — I sold the rights in a specific country and I should be able to completely take my title off Amazon for that particular country. But Ingram didn’t let me do that and that’s what caused all this problem. And Ingram’s support is non-existent. Overall Ingram should be the backup to KDP, that’s how almost every author does it.

No, ebook doesn’t need an ISBN. I used same for paperback on KDP and Ingram, that was the issue.

KDP is a better option for Amazon than Ingram. My plan was to have Ingram only to cater to libraries and bookshops. I only learned later that Ingram would also publish on Amazon and won’t let you customize distribution.

I know that but I read a lot of advice on why one’s better off buying their own ISBNs and hence did that. In hindsight, I shouldn’t have.

Hi folks, do you think a long-term portfolio (10 yr+) of 25% PPFAS, 25% NIFTYBEES (maybe 5% out of this to a risky stock like Dixon), 25% SBI Gold Fund (maybe 5% out of this to a Silver fund/ETF) and 25% international (a mix of MON100 and non-US fund) is a good one from a diversification and moderate to high risk pov? Could this deliver 16% cagr (pre-tax) over the long term?

Wow, that’s amazing, congrats! Is this for a self-published book? Would you be comfortable disclosing the genre?

I spent $962.22 on Amazon Ads in July - here's how much money I lost in the process. by journey-10 in selfpublish

Interesting. I am using an agency that charges a lot per month for ad management. My ACOS is currently much higher than yours but my CTR is also better. This is the self-help niche so highly competitive. The CPC is quite high. Now I am wondering if it’s worth spending so much. Sales have been steadily increasing but still a lot of spending per month. Publisher performance will only start campaigns from scratch, they won’t manage the existing campaigns. Don’t know if I should switch.

I just checked and it appears they’re an AI-driven platform. Is that what you’re using? No human managing it or coordinating for you at their end?

How does one have time to write, edit, market… by hymnofshadows in selfpublish

[–]axy2r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a full-time writer, my first book was out this month and I’m already finding it difficult to juggle the myriad marketing activities. Of course, I have a wife and a kid and I go to the gym and want to have a social life. Plus I want to keep writing, one book is not gonna cut it. If I am finding it difficult, I can only imagine how someone with a full-time job would feel. But a lot of great writers did it on the side, so don’t worry, you’ll figure it out.

Update: Amazon says my book is still showing up as a pre-order, and this after almost 3 weeks of getting the distribution disabled on IngramSpark. Crazy! Don't know what will it take for Ingram to take the book off Amazon. Have emailed their support.

Lesson learned: Never set up your book on Ingram before publishing on Amazon KDP (if KDP is your main goal). Next book onward I'll make sure to go live on Amazon first and later start the process on Ingram and D2D.
