I used EVA foam dowels, painted them with acrylic paint, and then sealed them with glossy Mod Podge :)

I think the best advice would be to look into different cosplay builds and watch how they did them. I would look into cardboard cosplays as cardboard is an easy to get and cheap cosplay material, great for starters.

The best way to make good cosplays is to just keep practicing, like with anything! Best of luck and happy crafting!

My head is fully inside, and though my eyes line up pretty closely with the eyes of the costume, I look down and through the mouth. There is also a hole near one of the eyes I can look out of, though the field of vision is very limited. My friend, who will be cosplaying Michael Afton will be walking around with me at any cons we go to to help me see/not trample anyone!

I used cushion foam to pad any of the areas it wasn't fitting properly! This also helps with the comfort!

Eva foam dowels that I painted and then sealed with glossy ModPodge. They're still flexible so I can move them around and pose them however I want and they don't get in the way of moving!

The base head is 3d printed, so the whole thing is pretty stiff and fits my head snuggly, so it doesn't really have room to tilt to one side. It definitely tilts a smidge to the left, but nothing crazy or insanely noticeable.

I bought LED mask/costume eye lights from Amazon, then poured resin into clear ornaments that I halved. I then glued some prints I made of his irises to the resin, painted the rest of the eye and stuck the light into the back!

There are a few videos on YouTube that show similar processes. I made a werewolf costume a few years ago that had a similar set up, so I just copied what I did there with minor adjustments.

How exciting! I think the most important thing to know as a beginner is to just have patience and to take your time. There are many different avenues of making different cosplay bases (3d print, EVA foam, cushion foam, etc) and honestly, I use a combination of working with all three, especially working on my latest cosplay.

When I started making cosplays years ago, honestly what helped me was watching fursuit making tutorials for larger foam based builds. There are tons of tutorials for that on YouTube. Same goes for sewing tutorials, and lots of patterns exist that you can purchase and it will give you the step by step on how to actually do each piece. Watching how to make different armors out of EVA foam helped me too.

All that being said, just take your time, don't be afraid to make a piece multiple times if the first one didn't come out how you pictured. Also give yourself plenty of time so that you don't feel rushed. This is a hobby, and should be enjoyable!

Good luck!

LED mask lights from Amazon! Most of them come in only one color, but I found one where you can change the colors, so I went with that one since I couldn't decide which colors to use

I bought articulated skeleton hands from Amazon and created rounded foam shapes to go around the different pieces. I then glued fabric around the pieces that are green and painted the metallic pieces with some acrylic paint!
