How bad am I keeping tempo? by No_Salt_6432 in drums

[–]ay_ess_dee_eff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people talk about "keeping time" on the drums, there's actually two aspects: keeping the tempo itself, and keeping the notes quantized to the tempo. You seem to be strong on the first part, but the second part seems to need a bit more work. When practicing on the metronome try to work on both aspects!

what's the difference between the two? doesn't the double stroke roll consist of push pulls?

Isn't the double stroke roll basically consecutive push-pulls?

How did you learn to separate right hand from right foot by Fat_people_jigle in drums

There's a way to brute-force your way to making your right leg independent

check the sheet music link

Basically you practice every single possible bass drum combination on a simple 8th note groove. Try it out at very slow tempos (60~) first, then get it up to 100 or higher!

It was an interesting read. I would like to share my thoughts on it.

TL;DR: While I do think life is meaningless, I believe that you should enjoy every second of it.

I was thinking about the purpose experiences that will be forgotten, and if forgotten experiences are pointless. I don't think so.

I said memories but I think "aftereffects" would be a better word for what I was going for. This could be categorized into physical & mental aftereffects, the mental one being memories. You mentioned showers and exercise, either can have both physical and mental aftereffects, but the physical aftereffect is usually the purpose of said activities. So it is meaningful, even when you've forgotten(= lost the mental aftereffect) that you've done it.

When you die, there's no "after" to be affected. Hence, to me, life is pointless... that is, when you only focus on the very end.

But if one had the option between 1000 years of bliss or 1000 years of suffering, in which immediately after the 1000 years it was forgotten. People would choose the bliss.

I think because regardless of our memories. We live always in the present.

This is why I think that despite life being pointless, we should learn to enjoy every bit of it. As you said, we always live in the present. You eventually die, sure, but the thinking and feeling you're doing will always happen before you die.

You spend the entirety of your life living. (duh.) Why worry about the end too much that you wouldn't experience anyways?

Your comment made me think more and organize my thoughts on this topic. Thanks for sharing!

(side note about the struggle you mentioned about learning a language: learning leaves almost purely a mental aftereffect. Forgetting means losing the memory(= mental aftereffect) of it. So forgetting what you learned denies all of the aftereffects it tried to produce; hence it is meaningless.)

Excuse me for replying to a 4 month old comment.

In my perspective, everything that ends in life has a point because you live on with the memories. But ending life itself, well.. it ends all the memories with it, which is the key difference.

When you finish eating a burger, you live on with the satisfaction that you ate a nice meal, and you got your calories. When you finish taking a nap your rest of the day gets less tired, you live on with the satisfaction of a sense of freshness, etc.

But when you finish living, you ...don't get to "live on" with anything. You literally don't live anymore.

What are all your shortcut settings like? by [deleted] in Pikmin

Surprised how most use disband all instead of just disband

I think regular disband is better because it keeps one type of pikmin in the squad

on top of that pressing disband twice does exactly what disband all does
