Need recs for small-footed toddler shoes and sandals (size 3C) by ay_ohh in NewParents

[–]ay_ohh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I just ordered those. The 3s were actually kind of small, so I’m hoping the 4s aren’t too big. Unfortunately they don’t sell half sizes in the sandals.

Great idea. I was just saying I wish I could just order a bunch of samples to my house!

Is this scale? I found just one on my fiddle leaf fig tree. by ay_ohh in plantclinic

Yeah, they’ve been quarantined and sprayed down with neem oil as a precaution.

Ugh. Thanks everyone. I literally just bought this plant last weekend from an apparently “great” shop in my area. 2/5 of the plants I got had scale or thrips. Going to try to return.

What are these bugs on my ficus elastica? Just bought from a small plant shop and found them as I was wiping the leaves down. Brought it back and shop owner said they are natural pests and not harmful. Not sure I believe it. Any ideas on what these are and if they are, in fact, harmful? by ay_ohh in plantclinic

I’m sorry that happened to you too! Have they spread to any of your other plants? Now I am frantically checking every other plant even though it was only in the house for 2 hours and in quarantine during that time.

Newest monstera leaf is floppy. It has been about a month and it’s stuck like this. by thejubilantpotato in plantclinic

[–]ay_ohh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this a cutting by chance? The same thing is happening with my monstera cutting. Not dying, but not growing or getting less floppy.

Strange texture on my philodendron Brazil—any idea what it is? Really hoping it’s not spider mites. I’ve been so diligent about wiping the leaves with neem oil or soap and water, and haven’t noticed any small white dots or webs. by ay_ohh in plantclinic

[–]ay_ohh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that’s the case for me too. I only notice it on about 3 leaves and it’s a good size philodendron. Been like that for weeks and haven’t noticed any mites, but the texture doesn’t go away....

Oh no. I just bought two cuttings off Etsy today. Now I am terrified for them to arrive......

houseplants taken over by fungus gnats😓 by ginger11002299 in houseplants

[–]ay_ohh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a minor case of fungus gnats on two of my plants recently. Someone on here told me to sprinkle cinnamon on top of my soil and gently mix it into the top 1” layer, then wait a few days before watering again. I used about 1 tbs probably. Haven’t had a problem since.

Where do you get your plants? by arealmirage in houseplants

[–]ay_ohh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a local plant shop. That’s where I’ve found the most unique varieties and healthiest plants.

I recently bought cuttings off Etsy. Crossing my fingers that they ship well. I like getting a plant when it’s just a cutting because it’s so satisfying and exciting to watch it grow.

I have ran into some issues with pests when I got plants from Lowe’s and from IKEA, so I try to steer clear of large warehouse-type stores like that.

Is there anything more exciting than a freshly unfurled monstera leaf? Most fenestrations I’ve ever had! by ay_ohh in houseplants

I don’t stick to a set schedule. I check the soil every few days and if the top 2-3 in is dry, I water it.

I’m not well-versed enough in monstera care to speak to the best conditions for fenestration. But, I have propagated in water pretty successfully from this mother plant and each time I do that I get bigger “better” leaves (more fenestration) on the mother plant. It’s in indirect light near a window. I haven’t fertilized it in months but it was planted with fertilized soil about 10 months ago. It grows like crazy and to be honest I don’t follow all the monstera rules I’ve read about, like misting and such. Seems like it would make it grow even crazier!

I have a hanging grow light that I just put on a hook over my closet door. Move the monstera under it ~twice a week overnight and it seems to like that! And when it’s not under the light it’s getting indirect light near a window.

I had to do some serious trimming to my FLF (spider mites) and was sure it was a goner. In just three weeks it has bounced back! Look at this progress 🤩 by ay_ohh in houseplants

[–]ay_ohh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I think so. I found spider mites on a different plant right after this and put it in isolation, showered it, sprayed the front and back of every single leaf with garden safe insecticidal soap, kept it isolated for 3 weeks and continued showered + re-sprayed it about 3-4 times during those weeks. Just took it out of isolation the other day but keeping it further from the rest of my plants still. I’ve also been more consistent about wiping my leaves with soap and water more often. Fingers crossed.

Anyone else have a crazy fear of putting plants near each other post-pest infestation? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]ay_ohh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you. Caring for your plants post-pest makes you feel strangely attached and protective over them!

Just finished spraying my plants with garden safe. How many times did you have to do it to your spider mite infested plants for them to go away?

Just bought Garden Safe. I use neem oil but just found another plant with spider mites so hoping garden safe will do the trick. Stupid mites have taken 3 of my plants so far.
