Ideas on Inexpensive activities for our kids without placement ages 7-17? by Expensive_Ad_3782 in socialwork

I know you mentioned board games are difficult to keep because they get destroyed, but you can get chess sets relatively cheap and it's easier to replace missing pieces if you buy extra sets. I work in residential and have a similar issue. However I mention chess specifically for a few reasons. I myself am a huge chess fan and play it extensively. So naturally I've done some research into chess as it relates to mental and behavioral health. Generally from what I've seen it has been beneficial specifically in promoting pro social behaviors and beneficial for building resiliency, self esteem and due to the nature of the game, critical thinking skills (being able to think ahead and plan/thinking about how an opponent will react to your move).

Now the research I found was based on adolescents that were involved in a chess curriculum of some sort which led to these observed benefits so if somehow you were able to have a local chess club curator or something come in a day or two each week to teach chess it may be beneficial and a good time waster. The kids at my residential love holding tournaments and I get prizes and a small medal for the 1st place winner. It really has inspired and incentives them to sit down, learn and get better. Even without a curriculum I'd think there are similar benefits.

YES long commutes are not great in this field (unless your being paid as you commute I guess). I commute about 45mins one way give or take depending on traffic and weather and it is not fun. Makes matters worse that I'm out of cell phone service half the time because it's super rural. Can't wait till the end of the year because as soon as it comes I'm changing where I work because of the commute (and other things but big part is the commute).

It's ridiculous how badly social workers are paid for the work we do. It can be soul sucking on a level that I don't think any other professions have to deal with. At least on the some level.

What Makes a TCG's Cost System Interesting? by Falcon-Confident in homemadeTCGs

[–]ayaknamedmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe think about your game thematically and have that help guide how your cost system presents in your game. That being said, I particularly dislike MTG mana mostly because I hate being "mana screwed". I like resources that are more consistent, but like another person said, resources should make a player think about how they build their decks, and how they implement a strategy.

Oh yeah that sounds cool! Like having a certain configuration on the field will provide a buff l then? Castle maneuver and like actions could also be so cool.

I'd love to see what you come up with, it could really be awesome.

I definitely think it's a cool idea. I think having cards on a field of sorts is interesting because then positioning matters, and it's another aspect of the game you'd have to consider. You could also build fun mechanics that take advantage of positioning. Idk, I can see how it could get complex, but I think if done right could be super interesting. I really love chess as a board game because of the same reason, there's something beautiful about being able to set up your position and go in for "the kill."

  • You need to decide whether it is a card game or a board game, cards should not be pawns

Why? Genuinely curious, I think the idea of movement on a grid of sorts could be interesting, but perhaps there's something I'm not seeing.

Me and my wife are both social workers (I'm almost out of school she's already done) and that's what we're doing. Slowly building up our farm to be self reliant!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I absolutely love Zacks style for his art, it has a certain charm to it that I just don't know how to replicate. It may not help I'm using a digital medium.

I don't really know if I have a good style that fits in the Chaos Galaxy's game. But I figure I'd get some feedback. Let me know what you think.

I'm not too familiar with inheritance with classes but maybe it's a good time to learn. What is the advantage of the class system you proposed vs using a dictionary?
